Which POS may take payment

Only a Main or Sub POS with May take payment ticked takes money, and only from staff allowed to take it.

Two things decide whether money can be taken: the POS and the person. A Main or a Sub POS takes payment when May take payment is ticked for it in the back office. A waiter tablet never does: its bills are paid at the counter.

What you see

The tick in the back office, a till with it off, and a waiter tablet.
  1. May take payment: on the POS's Orders & payments sub-tab in the back office. Ticked, the POS takes money. On a waiter tablet it is off and cannot be ticked.
  2. Pay, greyed: this POS may not take payment. You can still add dishes and send them to the kitchen.
  3. This POS is not set up to take payment. Pay at another POS.: take the money at another till.
  4. The bill is paid at the counter.: a waiter tablet has no Pay. The guest pays at a Main or Sub POS.

Switch payment on or off for a POS

  1. In the menu, under MASTERS, click Outlet, then Outlets.
  2. Click Edit on the outlet's row, then the POS terminals tab.
  3. Click Edit on the POS's row, then the Orders & payments sub-tab.
  4. Under What it may do, tick May take payment, or untick it.
  5. Click Save. To send it to the POS at once, press ⋯, Reload on its row.

Let a person take payment

The person needs the Take Payment right: in General Setup, User, POS access groups, tick Edit on the Take Payment row of their group.

Without it, pressing Pay opens Manager approval for payment. A manager types their PIN (or staff code and password) and presses Approve. The payment is recorded as the manager's.

If something goes wrong

  • May take payment is dimmed in the back office: the POS is a waiter tablet, a kitchen display, an order board or a kiosk. Only a Main or a Sub POS has this tick.
  • Pay is still greyed after you ticked it: press ⋯, Reload on the POS's row, or wait a few minutes for its next sync.
  • Siti may not take payment either.: the person who tried to approve has no right either. Ask a manager.
