The POS status bar
The slim line along the very bottom of the table screen and the sales screen. Each part, left to right - the terminal, the shift, the subscription and its standing, the link to the Main POS, the version, who is signed in, the clock, the addresses and the update !; what turns amber; and the buttons at the right of the top bar above it, with Clock in / out beside Refresh and Print log in the Settings menu.
On this page
Along the very bottom of the table screen and the sales screen runs a slim navy line: the status bar. It says, in one glance, which POS this is, whose shift it is, how the subscription stands, which version runs here, who is signed in, the time, and the device's network addresses.
It sits under the bottom row of buttons, never over anything. Everything in it is what the POS already holds: nothing in it waits for the cloud, so it is right with the internet down too. Its clock ticks every second, and the addresses are read again every few seconds.
The bar, part by part
- The terminal: this POS's code, in white and bold, such as T01. Its name where it has no code.
- The shift: Shift and the cloud's number for the shift open on this POS, such as Shift S2610-0012. Before the cloud has numbered it (a shift opened offline), which shift of the day it is: Shift 2 today, or Shift open. No shift, in amber, when none is open: this POS will not sell until one is. A Sub POS that sells in its Main POS's shift says whose: T01's shift.
- The subscription: its name and its six-digit number, such as KOPITIAM DEMO · 123456.
- Its standing: Active; on a free trial, Trial · 24 days left, Trial · ends today, or Trial; Trial ended in amber when the date has passed but nothing is switched off yet; Read-only · trial ended in amber when new bills are switched off; Not active in amber while the cloud refuses the restaurant's work and the POS keeps it.
- The link: only where the Main POS works On your own network only. Here, on the Main POS, how many POS are linked to it. See The link segment.
- The version: the version of FooodPos on this device, such as v0.2.55.
- Who is signed in: the name of the person signed in here.
- The clock: the day, the month and the time to the second, on this device's own clock, 24-hour, such as 23 Oct 14:05:09.
- The addresses: this device's own network addresses: LAN for a network cable, Wi-Fi for Wi-Fi, both when both are up, two of each at most (more are counted, +1). Any other connection (a VPN, a USB modem) shows as IP only when there is neither. No network, in amber, when it has none. Read them out when somebody sets up a printer or a Sub POS.
- !: a round amber mark, only when a newer version of FooodPos is ready. Tap it to see it. See Update the POS apps.
On a narrow screen the parts on the left give way first, cut short with …; the clock and the addresses at the right always stay whole.
What turns amber
A part in amber is worth a second look: No shift, Trial ended, Read-only · trial ended, Not active, No network, and a link that is not working. Names never turn amber, whatever they say.
The link segment (own network)
A POS whose Main POS works On your own network only shows one more part, after the standing. It is the one part of the bar that can be tapped: it opens the link panel. See The Main POS link panel.
| On | It says |
|---|---|
| A Sub or Waiter POS | Main POS: linked, Main POS: searching, or in amber Main POS: reconnecting, Main POS: not reachable, Main POS: needs updating |
| The Main POS | 2 POS linked, No POS linked, or in amber Not listening; with tables open on other POS, such as · 3 tables in use after it |
A Sub or Waiter POS that works through its Main POS adds after Main POS: linked what goes through it: · orders go through it, · sales go through it or · everything goes through it, and, while the Main POS has no internet, such as · T01 has no internet in amber.
The top bar above it
The table screen's top bar has the POS's buttons at its right end. On Windows, left to right:
- ⏰ Clock in / out: from 0.2.55, just left of Refresh. It opens the staff attendance clock, the same window as the sign-in screen's Clock in / out: staff clock in or out with their own staff code and clock PIN or password, and nobody's sign-in changes. Shown only while somebody at the outlet has a clock PIN or password. See Staff Report › Attendance.
- 🔄 Refresh: asks the cloud for the latest at once. It turns while it works and says Refreshing….
- ⌨ On-screen keyboard (Windows only): the docked keyboard. See The on-screen keyboard.
- EN: the language button. See The language button.
- ☀: Day mode or Night mode. See Day mode and Night mode.
- ⚙ Settings: the menu. Rest the pointer on it and it says Print log, printer, last bill, reports, log out and exit.
- Print log: from 0.2.55 the first line of the menu, where Kitchen problems was: Every print on this POS, printed or failed. One screen: the kitchen tickets that need somebody, under Needs attention, then every print of the last 14 days. The other lines: Hardware, then Last bill, Reports and Menu design for those with the rights, then Log out and Exit POS. See The Settings menu.
The sales screen's top bar has the ⌨ and Refresh (↻) at its far right; it has no Settings menu.
On Android
The Android bar says the same words, in the same order, with | between the parts, and the ! at its right end followed by New version. The addresses are the tablet's: LAN for an Ethernet port, Wi-Fi for Wi-Fi.
The top bar has ⏰, 🔄, EN, ☀ and ⚙, with no keyboard key: tapping a box opens the tablet's own keyboard. On a phone, the top line has no room for ⏰: it ends the line under it. The Settings menu has the same lines, with Exit POS in red at its foot.
