A Buy X get Y promotion gives units free, or cheaper, when the guest buys enough: buy 2 Teh Tarik, the 3rd is free, or buy a burger, get the fries at half price. The POS works it out by itself; the units given are always the cheapest ones that count.

The units stay on the bill as they were rung. The kitchen still makes them; the promotion takes money off their line.

Before you start

  • You need the right to change Promotions (see Promotions).
  • Only whole units count. A dish sold by weight never counts.

Start one

  1. Under MASTERS, click Menu, then Promotions.
  2. Click the card + Buy X get Y. The page New buy x get y opens, set to Buy 2, Get 1, free.
  3. Type a Code and a Name, such as TEH3 and Teh Tarik 3 for 2.

What it gives, part by part

Buy 2 get 1 free, from the same dishes: every third Teh Tarik is free, at most two a bill.
  1. Buy: how many units the guest buys for one set. A whole number, 1 or more.
  2. Get: how many units the set gives. A whole number, 1 or more.
  3. The get units are: free, % off or amount off each. With % off or amount off each, a box beside it takes the number: 50 for half price, 2.00 for RM 2.00 off each unit.
  4. Sets a bill, at most: how many sets one bill may have. Blank means no limit. With 2, the 9th Teh Tarik is not free.
  5. Cap per line: the most the promotion may take off one line. Blank means no cap.
  6. Minimum spend: the bill must reach this amount first. Blank means none.
  7. The get units come from: the same items (the units given are among the ones that count), or other items (the units given come from a list of their own). See below.
  8. Items that count: the dishes or categories whose units count, added as on an item discount (Category or Item, exclude, Add). With no chip: Every item on the bill.

The same items: buy 2, the 3rd is free

With the same items, one set is Buy + Get units of the dishes that count. For Buy 2 Get 1:

On the billSetsFree
2 Teh Tarik0nothing: not enough units for one set
3 Teh Tarik11 Teh Tarik
5 Teh Tarik11 Teh Tarik
6 Teh Tarik22 Teh Tarik
2 Teh Tarik and 1 Teh Tarik Ais1the cheaper of the three

The units given are the cheapest: with several dishes counting together, the guest gets the cheapest one free.

Other items: buy a burger, get the fries

With other items, one set is Buy units of the dishes under Buy, and the units given come from the dishes under Get.

Other items: each Chicken Burger gives one French Fries free.
  1. Buy: the dishes the guest buys. Every Buy units of them make one set.
  2. Get: the dishes given. With no chip it reads The cheapest item on the bill: the cheapest dish of the whole bill is the one given.

When the guest has earned a free unit but it is not on the bill yet, the POS offers it, and never adds it by itself: it shows a chip such as Add 1 French Fries — free with Burger and fries. The cashier rings it if the guest wants it.

Make "buy 2, the 3rd free"

  1. Keep Buy 2, Get 1 and free.
  2. Keep the same items.
  3. Under Items that count, choose Item and click Teh Tarik. Add more dishes or a category to let them count together.
  4. Optional: Sets a bill, at most, such as 2.
  5. Set When and Where and how (see When, where and how it applies), and click Create.

Make "buy a burger, fries half price"

  1. Set Buy 1 and Get 1.
  2. In The get units are, choose % off and type 50 beside it.
  3. Choose other items.
  4. Under Buy, add Chicken Burger. Under Get, add French Fries.
  5. Click Create.

How it lands on a bill

  • The free or cheaper units are money off the line that holds them, under the promotion's name; Try it writes "Teh Tarik 3 for 2 (1 free)". The quantity never changes.
  • It is judged at the bill's time, not at each line's time: When says Judged at the time the bill is printed, or now.
  • With Skip lines the cashier discounted by hand ticked (the default), a line the cashier has discounted by hand does not count.
  • Once a promotion that does not stack has taken a line, a lower-priority promotion skips it.
