A voucher's terms say what it gives and when it can be used. A reusable code and a printed batch share the same form: What it gives, When it can be used, and With promotions and discounts. This guide goes through each box, and says what the POS does with it.

Before you start

  • You need the right to change Vouchers; for a printed batch, the right Generate printed codes.
  • For a voucher on chosen items, the categories and dishes must exist.
  • A printed code's terms are on the paper: once the codes are generated, what it gives and what it cannot be combined with do not change. Only the name, the dates, Taken off and the switch can (with Edit batch).

Open the form

  1. Under MASTERS, click Menu, then Vouchers.
  2. For a code: on Codes, click + New code, or Edit on a code. For a batch: on Printed batches, click + Generate codes.

What it gives, part by part

What it gives: 20% off chosen items, up to RM 10.00, the Drinks category less one dish, taken off before the service charge and the tax.
  1. Discount: the number, then amount (a new voucher starts here) or percent. It must be more than 0; a percentage at most 100.
  2. Cap: shown for a percentage: the most the voucher may take off in all. Blank means no cap. For an amount it is not shown (a cap saved earlier still shows, with A cap is for a percentage. Clear it for an amount.).
  3. Off what: Whole bill (every item on the bill) or Chosen items (only the categories and items you pick).
  4. Takes money off: only for Chosen items. Under Categories, search and click each category; it shows as all of Drinks. A chip's ✕ takes it away.
  5. Except these items: dishes of the picked categories to leave out, drawn red. The search only offers the picked categories' dishes. With none: None left out: every item in the picked categories.
  6. + Also name single items: opens Also these single items, to add a dish on its own, whatever its category (An item named on its own, whatever its category.). An older voucher may also show Except these categories (Set on this voucher before. It can be removed here.).
  7. Taken off: when the voucher comes off, against the service charge and the tax. See Taken off.
  8. The line under it: for chosen items, A voucher for chosen items comes off those items’ lines on the bill. For the whole bill: A voucher for the whole bill comes off the bill. One for chosen items comes off those items’ lines. And always: Every POS at the outlet must be 0.2.48 or later for this to apply.

Whole bill or chosen items

  • Whole bill: the voucher comes off the bill, after any spend tier, before the manager's discount on the whole bill.
  • Chosen items: the voucher comes off the lines of those items, before tax, as an item discount does. The tax is then worked on what is left of the line.
    • A percentage comes off each matching line; the Cap is for all of them together, the dearest lines first.
    • An amount comes off the dearest matching line first, then the next; each line goes down to 0.00 at most. What does not fit on the matching lines is lost: it never moves to other dishes or to the bill.

For example: Nasi Lemak Ayam RM 14.90 and Teh Tarik RM 3.80, with a voucher of RM 5.00 off Drinks. The Teh Tarik line comes to 0.00, the other RM 1.20 is lost, and the bill's tax is worked on RM 14.90.

Switching from Chosen items to Whole bill keeps the chosen rows until you save. On Save, the back office asks first: "Whole bill" takes the 2 chosen rows (categories and items) off this voucher. It will then take money off every item on the bill. Save?

Taken off

Taken off says where the voucher comes off, against the service charge and the tax:

ChoiceThe service charge is worked onThe tax is worked on
Before service charge and tax (usual)the amount after the voucherthe amount after the voucher
Before tax onlythe full amountthe amount after the voucher
After service charge and taxthe full amountthe full amount; the voucher comes off what the customer pays

Taken off applies at an outlet only when every POS there is 0.2.48 or later. Until then, the voucher is taken off the bill the way it always was, as one discount on the whole bill. A printed batch's Taken off can be changed later with Edit batch: it is not printed on the codes.

When it can be used, and with what

When it can be used, and With promotions and discounts.
  1. Minimum spend: the bill must reach this before the voucher applies. It is the whole bill after line discounts and item promotions, even for a voucher on chosen items: "spend RM 30, RM 5 off drinks". Blank means none.
  2. Where: POS & QR, POS only or QR menu only (the guest's phone ordering page). A kiosk counts as a POS.
  3. Valid from: the first day it can be used. Blank means from now.
  4. Valid to: the last day, that day included. Blank means no end. After it, the code's status is Expired.
  5. Uses and At most: a code only (a printed code is always one use). See Vouchers.
  6. Promotions: whether the voucher can be on a bill a promotion is on. See below.
  7. Manual discount: Not with a manual discount: the voucher is not used beside a discount staff key on the bill or on a dish.

With promotions and discounts

The three choices under Promotions:

  • Can be used together with a promotion (usual): both come off the same bill.
  • Not with these promotions: pick them in Search promotions by code or name…; each shows as a red chip. Under it: A bill already running one of these promotions will not take this voucher. If the voucher goes on first and the promotion comes after, the POS asks which to use.
  • Cannot be used with a promotion: no promotion beside it. A bill already running a promotion will not take this voucher. If the voucher goes on first and a promotion comes after, the POS asks which to use.

Not with a manual discount, ticked: A bill that already has a discount keyed by staff will not take this voucher. If the voucher goes on first and staff key a discount after, the POS asks which to use.

What the POS really does in each case, and how the promotion wins, is in Vouchers with promotions and discounts.
