A modifier group is a question the POS asks when a dish is added: Spice level, Size, Add-ons. Its options can add to the price. The Modifiers tab says which groups this dish asks.

A dish asks two kinds of groups: the ones ticked here, and the ones its category gives every dish in it. This tab shows both.

Before you start

  • You need Items, Edit in your back office access group.
  • The groups are made in Menu, Modifiers, or here with + New modifier group. Both need Modifiers, Edit.

Open the tab

  1. In the menu, under MASTERS, click Menu, then Items.
  2. Click the item's code.
  3. Click the Modifiers tab.

The tab, part by part

The Modifiers tab: the groups ticked on the dish, then the groups from its category.
  1. Modifiers: the item's fifth tab.
  2. + New modifier group: makes a group in a small window, ticks it on this dish, and keeps you here. See Make a new group from here. Shown to someone with Modifiers, Edit.
  3. A modifier group: its code and its name. Tick every group this dish asks. A group you tick now is asked after the ones already ticked.
  4. The hints: what a group is for. A group the guest must answer, with a default option, is answered by itself at the POS. A set meal's contents are not modifiers: they are on its Set contents tab.
  5. From the item's category: the groups the dish asks because of its category. They are asked after the ticked ones. Shown only when there are some.
  6. Leave this item out: this dish stops asking the category's group. The other dishes of the category still ask it.
  7. Bring back: on a group the dish was left out of. Its code and name are struck through, with an amber left out label. Press it and the dish asks the group again.
  8. The rule: Leave this item out and Bring back are saved at once, without the item's Save.

If no group exists yet, the tab says No modifier groups yet. Press + New modifier group to make one.

Put modifier groups on a dish

  1. Tick each group the dish asks, for example SPICE and EGG.
  2. Click Save.

At the POS, adding the dish opens its choices. See Choices and modifiers.

Leave a dish out of its category's group

The category Rice & Noodles asks Noodle type of every dish in it, but Nasi Goreng has no noodles:

  1. Open Nasi Goreng, and its Modifiers tab.
  2. Under From the item's category, press Leave this item out on Noodle type.
  3. The big green SAVED says This item is left out of the group. The row is struck through, with Bring back.

There is no need to press the item's Save for this. Press Bring back to undo it: This item has the group again.

Make a new group from here

+ New modifier group: a small window, its group ticked on the dish when saved.
  1. Name: needed. What the POS asks, such as Spice level.
  2. Code: left empty, a code is made from the name.
  3. Choice: Pick one (one option only) or Pick many.
  4. Minimum: how many options must be chosen. 0 makes the group optional. A minimum of 2 or more makes it Pick many, and the same option may then be chosen more than once.
  5. Maximum: the most options for Pick many; 0 is no limit. For Pick one it is 1.
  6. The options: each one's name, and what it adds to the price (Price +/−; empty is no charge). + Option adds a row, ✕ takes one away.
  7. Save and tick it: makes the group, ticks it on this dish and closes the window.
  1. On the Modifiers tab, press + New modifier group.
  2. Type the Name, choose Pick one or Pick many, and set Minimum and Maximum.
  3. Type each option's name, and its price if it costs more.
  4. Press Save and tick it. The big green SAVED says Spice level made and ticked. Save the item to put it on.
  5. Press the item's Save.

The group is made at once and can be used on other dishes too. Its pictures, second-language names and stock are set later in Menu, Modifiers. See Modifiers.

A set meal has no modifiers of its own

On a Combo / set item the tab is grey and says A set takes the extras of the dishes inside it. Set them on each dish. Put the modifier groups on each dish chosen in the set. The set's dishes are on its Set contents tab.
