Items: copy an item
Make a new dish from one you have, with everything it carries, then give it its own code and name. What the copy takes, what stays with the original, and the blue box that says so.
On this page
A new dish is often an old one with a small change: the large size of a drink, the same noodles with beef. Copy makes the new dish for you, carrying everything the original has, then opens it so you can give it its own code and name.
Before you start
- You need Items, Edit in your back office access group.
- Have the new dish's code and name ready.
Copy a dish
- In the menu, under MASTERS, click Menu, then Items.
- On the dish's row, press Copy: the two small squares at the start of the row.
- The back office asks first: Make a copy of "Teh Tarik" (TT01)? The copy carries everything this dish has — prices, taxes, kitchen, modifiers, set contents, commission, recipe and picture — and opens for you to give it its own code and name.
- Press OK. The copy is made and saved, and its window opens on the General tab, with a blue box above the tabs.
- Change the Item code and the Name, and anything else that differs, such as the price on Pricing.
- Click Save.

This is a copy of TT01 — Teh Tarik, saved as TT01-COPY "Teh Tarik (copy)". Give it its own code and name below.2
It is saved already and switched on like the original, so a till picks it up on its next sync: rename it now, or untick Active until it is ready.3
Also carried over: 2 price-level prices, 2 modifier groups, a recipe of 3 lines and the picture.4
Not copied: its stock on hand and sales, which belong to the original. A copy never takes a barcode either — a barcode identifies one product — and the original had none.5

- The title: the copy's own window, Edit Teh Tarik (copy). It is a saved dish already.
- What it is: the dish it was copied from, and the code and name it was saved under. The code is the original's plus -COPY (or -COPY2, -COPY3 if that is taken); the name is the original's plus (copy).
- Whether it is on sale: the copy is switched on or off as the original was. Switched on, the POS picks it up at its next contact with the cloud, named (copy) until you rename it. Rename it now, or untick Active on this tab until it is ready. For a switched-off original it says It is saved already and, like the original, switched off.
- Also carried over: what came with it that you would not see at a glance, counted.
- Not copied: what stays with the original, and why.
- Item code and Name: change these to the new dish's own.
- Save: saves your changes to the copy. Cancel closes the window, but the copy stays: it was made when you pressed OK.
What the copy takes
Everything that describes the dish:
- Its General tab: type, category, unit, colour, description, the switches.
- Its tax, its prices at each price level, and each outlet's own settings for it.
- Its kitchen stations, including rules for one outlet or order type.
- Its modifier groups, and the category groups it was left out of.
- A set's groups and choices.
- Its commission rates.
- Its recipe, and its unit conversions.
- The Taxes screen's rules that name it, such as no service charge on it.
- Its picture, as a picture of its own: changing the copy's picture later does not change the original's.
What stays with the original
- The barcode. A barcode names one product. Two dishes with one barcode would make every scan ring whichever was found first. When the original had one, the blue box names it: Not copied: the barcode 9555123456789, because a barcode identifies one product and two dishes sharing it would make a scan ambiguous; nor its stock on hand and sales, which belong to the original.
- Its stock on hand and its sales. They happened to the original.
Give the copy its own barcode on its General tab if it has one.
