Kitchen Stations
Make the places where dishes are cooked, such as the grill, the hot kitchen and the drinks bar, once for every outlet. Code, Name, Second language, Kitchen slip format, One slip per dish, Colour, and why the printer is set on a POS.
On this page
A kitchen station is a place where dishes are made: the grill, the hot kitchen, the drinks bar, the dessert counter. Each dish is ticked to a station. When a POS sends an order, each station gets a kitchen ticket with its own dishes only, on its own printer or its own kitchen display.
Kitchen Stations is one list for the whole restaurant, every outlet together. A dish ticked to GRILL goes to GRILL at every outlet. What differs per outlet is the printer: each outlet's POS chooses its own printer for each station, on the POS, where the printer is.
This guide covers the list and a station's basic settings. A station's screen, the pass and the slips printed when a ticket is bumped are in Kitchen Stations: screen, pass and bump slips.
Before you start
- Your access group needs Kitchen Stations (under Layout in Back office access groups): View to see the list, Edit to add, change or delete a station.
- To choose a station's Kitchen slip format, make the format first under General Setup, Print Formats. See Print Formats: kitchen slip.
Open Kitchen Stations
- In the back office's menu, under MASTERS, click Room, then Kitchen Stations.
- The list shows every switched-on station. There is no Outlet box: the list is the same for every outlet.

Kitchen Stations
Where each dish is cooked. One list for every outlet: a dish ticked to a station goes to it at every outlet. Each outlet's POS sets its own printer for a station: POS > Hardware > Printer.

- Kitchen Stations: under MASTERS, in the Room category.
- Search…: finds a station by its code or name as you type.
- Show inactive: also lists the stations that are switched off, drawn faded.
- + New: adds a station. See Add a station.
- Code: the station's short code, with a small square of its colour in front when it has one. The code is what kitchen tickets, the POS and the kitchen display show.
- Name: its full name.
- Screen: Screen when the station's tickets show on a kitchen display, Screen first when the paper prints only if the screen is down, — for paper only. See the screen guide.
- Slip per dish: Yes when the station prints a separate slip for each dish.
- Slip format: the kitchen slip format the station prints in, or Default (the restaurant's default kitchen slip).
- Expeditor: for the pass, Copies all (it gets a copy of every ticket), and when an order turns Ready: Ready: cook's Done or Ready: Served at the pass.
- Slip when bumped: Ready slip (a cooking station) or Runner slip (the pass) when a slip prints as a ticket is bumped on the kitchen display.
- Edit and Delete: change the station, or take it away. Only with the Edit right.
The station's window, part by part
Empty: Restaurant default (Standard). Made under General Setup > Print Formats, with a live preview.
5- Code: a short code, up to 20 characters, such as GRILL or KP1. It must be different from every other station of the restaurant. Needed.
- Name: the station's name, up to 100 characters, such as Grill. Needed.
- Second language: the station's name in your second language, if you use one. It can be left empty.
- Kitchen display: tick Show tickets on a screen when this station has a kitchen display. Two more settings then appear. See Kitchen Stations: screen, pass and bump slips.
- Kitchen slip format: the layout of this station's kitchen slip. Left empty (—), it prints the restaurant's default kitchen slip. The formats are made under General Setup, Print Formats, on the Kitchen slip tab. Each station can have its own.
- One slip per dish: tick Print a separate ticket for each item for a kitchen that clips a slip to every plate. An order of three dishes then prints three slips, numbered 1/3, 2/3, 3/3.
- Expeditor / pass: tick Receives a copy of every ticket for the pass, the station that checks every order before it goes out. See the screen guide.
- Slip when bumped: tick Print a slip when bumped to print a slip when the station's ticket is bumped on its kitchen display. See the screen guide.
- Colour: a colour for the station: pick it, or type it as #RRGGBB. It is the small square in front of the code in the list, and a stripe on the station's tickets on the kitchen display.
- Display order: where the station comes in lists; smaller numbers first.
- Active: untick to switch the station off. A switched-off station is no longer offered in a POS terminal's Stations list, and leaves this list unless Show inactive is ticked.
- Save: saves the station. Each POS takes it at its next contact with the cloud.
Add a station
- Click + New. The window New Kitchen Station opens.
- Type a Code, such as GRILL, and a Name, such as Grill.
- Tick Show tickets on a screen if the station has a kitchen display. Leave it unticked for a station that prints on paper.
- Choose the other settings you need, then click Save. The station joins the list.
- Send dishes to it: on Items, a dish's Kitchen tab, or on Categories, a category's Default kitchen station. See Items: kitchen.
- Give it a printer at each outlet: on a POS of that outlet, Hardware, Printer. A kitchen display can do it too, on its own Kitchen printers page.
Change a station
- Click Edit on the station's row. The window Edit Kitchen Station opens.
- Change what you need, then click Save.
The change is for every outlet. A station's printer is never changed from here: saving leaves the printer each POS chose exactly as it is.
Delete or switch off a station
- Click Delete on the station's row.
- The back office asks: Delete "Grill"? If it has already been used it will be deactivated instead, so existing records stay intact. Click OK.
- A station never used is deleted: the page says Deleted. A station that dishes, categories, kitchen tickets or bills still name is switched off instead, and the page says why, such as Deactivated — still used by items.
To switch a station back on, tick Show inactive, click Edit on it, tick Active, and Save.
A station with no printer and no screen
A station an outlet has no printer for, and no kitchen display, sends its dishes nowhere at that outlet: the POS shows it with no printer, and nothing prints there for it. Give it a printer on a POS of that outlet, or tick Show tickets on a screen if a kitchen display reads it.
