Dates, presets and the business day

How every report chooses its dates. The quick choices Today, Yesterday, Last 7 days and Last 30 days, the From and To boxes, the one-date reports, and the business day that ends at the outlet's day-end hour rather than at midnight.

On this page

Every report in the back office has the same dates bar at its top right. Choose a quick range in one click, or type the first and last day. Reports count business days, not calendar days: a sale made after midnight, before the outlet's day ends, belongs to the night before.

The dates bar, part by part

The top of the Sales report: outlet, POS, the quick choices and the From and To boxes.
  1. The report's title and its line: the Sales report reminds you that it counts business days.
  2. Outlet: All outlets or one outlet. See All outlets, or the working outlet.
  3. POS: All POS or one POS, on the reports that can be cut by POS. A line under the boxes says which POS a figure is counted on, for example By the POS the bill was opened on. The money may have been taken on another POS: see Payments.
  4. The quick choices: Today, Yesterday, Last 7 days and Last 30 days. The one on screen is blue. A report opens on Today.
  5. From: the first day, counted in.
  6. to: the last day, counted in too.

Choose the dates

  1. Click a quick choice. The two boxes fill in, the button turns blue, and the report reads again.
  2. Or type, or pick from the calendar, a day in From and a day in to. The quick choice is no longer blue, because the dates are your own.

What each quick choice means, counted from the outlet's business day of today:

ChoiceFromTo
Todaytodaytoday
Yesterdayyesterdayyesterday
Last 7 dayssix days agotoday
Last 30 daystwenty-nine days agotoday

Both ends are counted in: From 1 Oct to 7 Oct is seven days.

The business day

A restaurant's day does not end at midnight. Each outlet has a day-end hour, set in Outlets, the outlet, Money, Day-end hour, for example At 4 am. A sale before 4 am counts towards the day before.

So with a day end at 4 am:

  • A sale made at 11:30 pm on Friday is Friday's.
  • A sale made at 1:15 am on Saturday is still Friday's.
  • A sale made at 4:05 am on Saturday is Saturday's.

Today on a report is the outlet's business day now, as the cloud counts it. At 2 am on Saturday, Today is still Friday. Before the report reads anything, it asks the cloud which day that is, so for a moment it says Loading….

Reports about one day

Some reports are about one moment, not a range: Balance (stock), Deposits held, Pay later outstanding and Day end by POS. Their dates bar has Today, Yesterday and one date box.

A one-day report: two quick choices and one date.
  1. Today: the figures as they stand now, at the outlet's business day of today.
  2. Yesterday: the day before the date in the box.
  3. The date (its name is As at): the day the figures are as at. Type or pick another day.

A link from another screen, such as the Dashboard, can open a report on its own dates. The boxes then show those dates and no quick choice is blue. Click a quick choice to go back to the usual ranges.
