Modifiers: Apply to items
Put a modifier group on many dishes at once from the group's Apply to items tab, by ticking dishes (By item) or whole categories (By category), with every filter, tick, note and button of both views explained.
A modifier group asks its question only on the dishes that carry it. The group's second tab, Apply to items, puts it on dishes in one go, two ways:
- By item: the whole menu as a list with a tick box each. Tick the dishes that ask the question.
- By category: tick whole categories. Every dish in them asks the question, including dishes added to them later. You can leave single dishes out.
It is the same link as the dish's own Modifiers tab on Items, seen from the group's end: a tick made here shows there, and the other way round.
Before you start
- The group must be saved. A new group's Apply to items tab says Save this group first. Then open it again and its items can be ticked here.
- The group must be switched on (Active on its Group tab). A switched-off group cannot be put on dishes.
- You need the right to edit modifiers.
Open the tab
- Open Menu, Modifiers.
- Click Edit on the group's row.
- Click the Apply to items tab. It says Loading the menu… the first time, then opens on By item.
By item
| ☐10 | Code | Name | Category | Price | Notes11 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| ☑ | D001 | Teh Tarik | Beverages | 3.50 | |
| ☑ | D002 | Kopi O | Beverages | 2.80 | this item: pick 1–2 [12] |
| ☑ | D003 | Sirap Bandung | Beverages | 4.00 | To add [13] |
| ☐ | D004 | Limau Ais | Beverages | 4.00 | To remove |
| ☐ | D005 | Iced Lemon Tea | Cold drinks | 4.50 | by category: Beverages [14] |
| ☐ | C001 | Set Lunch A | Main Course | 15.90 | Combo / set |
- By item / By category: the two views. The one you are in is blue. While a view has changes not saved, the other is dimmed: Save or undo the changes on this view first.
- On 4 items: how many dishes carry the group by a tick of their own; Not on any item yet when none. and 3 items more by category counts the dishes that ask it only because their category does.
- Search code or name…: narrows the list to dishes whose code, name or second-language name has the words.
- All categories: shows one category's dishes only.
- All types: shows one kind of item only: Normal, Combo / set, Open price or Raw material.
- Only ticked: shows the ticked dishes only. A dish that was ticked when the tab opened stays in sight after you untick it, until you save.
- Inactive: also shows the dishes that are switched off. A switched-off dish that carries the group is always shown.
- Tick all shown (8): ticks every dish the filters show, the number in brackets.
- Untick all shown: unticks every dish the filters show.
- The box in the heading: ticks or unticks every dish shown, like the two buttons. It is half-ticked when some are.
- Notes: what is special about the dish, below.
- this item: pick 1–2: the dish asks this question with its own Minimum and Maximum, set on its Modifiers tab. Unticking it here throws that setting away.
- To add / To remove: what Save items will change on this dish.
- by category: Beverages: the dish asks the question because its category does (see By category), not by a tick of its own.
- The line at the foot: what Save items is about to do; Nothing to save yet. when nothing has changed.
- Save items: saves the ticks. Close closes the window; ticks not saved are lost.
Other notes a dish can carry: Inactive (switched off), its kind when it is not a normal dish (Combo / set, Open price, Raw material), and left out of its category for a dish that By category leaves out.
Put the group on dishes
- Narrow the list: type in Search code or name…, or choose a category in All categories.
- Tick the dishes, or press Tick all shown.
- Read the line at the foot: Not saved yet: adding to 6 items.
- Click Save items. The big green SAVED says what was done, such as Added to 6 items.
The tab stays open for more. The list is read again from the cloud, so what you see after a save is what is stored. A POS takes the change at its next contact with the cloud.
Ticking a dish that By category leaves out brings it back onto the group.
By category
| ☐ | Code | Name | Category | Price | Notes6 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| ☑ | D001 | Teh Tarik | Beverages | 3.50 | from Beverages |
| ☑ | D005 | Iced Lemon Tea | Cold drinks | 4.50 | from Beverages |
| ☐ | D010 | Mineral Water | Beverages | 2.00 | Left out [7] |
- What a tick means: a ticked category covers the categories under it; dishes added to it later get the group by themselves; set meals and raw materials are never put on a group this way.
- The categories: every category of the restaurant, those under another indented below it. A switched-off category is grey.
- covered by Beverages: this sub-category is already covered, because the category above it is ticked. It can still be ticked on its own.
- Search these items…: narrows the dishes below.
- The count: how many dishes the ticked categories hold, and how many are left out. Tick a category to put this group on its items. while none is ticked.
- Notes: from Beverages names the ticked category that covers the dish; Left out marks a dish you unticked; loses its own tick warns that the dish was ticked By item and will lose that tick too; Inactive marks a switched-off dish.
- Left out: an unticked dish. It does not ask the question, now or later, until it is ticked again.
- Undo: puts the categories and the dishes back as stored. It shows only while there are changes.
- Save categories: saves the rule. Close closes the window; changes not saved are lost.
Put the group on categories
- Click By category.
- Tick the categories whose dishes ask the question, such as Beverages.
- The dishes they hold are listed under them. Untick any dish that should not ask, such as Mineral Water.
- Click Save categories. The big green SAVED says On 6 items, or, when some left-out dishes had their own tick, On 6 items — 1 item left out lost its own tick.
From now on, a dish added to Beverages on Items asks the question by itself. The group's row on Modifiers says By category: Beverages.
