An item or category discount takes money off the dishes you pick: 10% off all drinks, RM 1.00 off each Teh Tarik, 15% off the whole menu except the set lunches. Each dish it covers shows the discount on its own line of the bill, under the promotion's name.

To give it only on some days or hours, use a Happy hour instead: it is the same promotion with hours. To give each dish a price of its own, see Each dish its own price (basket).

Before you start

  • You need the right to change Promotions (see Promotions).
  • The dishes and categories must exist in Items and Categories.

Start one

  1. Under MASTERS, click Menu, then Promotions.
  2. Click the card + Item or category discount. The page New item or category discount opens.
  3. Type a Code and a Name, such as DRINK10 and Drinks 10% off.

What it gives, part by part

What it gives, for one discount on everything it covers: 10% off the Drinks category, except one dish.
  1. The same discount for everything below: one discount for every dish the promotion covers. This is the usual choice.
  2. Each dish its own price (basket): each dish its own promotion price or % off instead. See Each dish its own price (basket).
  3. Discount: the number, then % or amount. A percentage comes off each line it covers ("Off each line in scope."). An amount comes off each unit: the hint says Off EACH unit: 2 × RM1.00 off takes RM2.00 off the line.
  4. Cap per line: the most the promotion may take off one line of the bill. Blank means no cap. With 10% off and a cap of 5.00, a line of RM 80.00 gets RM 5.00 off, not RM 8.00.
  5. Minimum spend: the bill must reach this amount before the promotion applies. It is the whole bill after the cashier's manual discounts. Blank means none.
  6. Applies to: what the promotion covers, as chips. all of Drinks is a whole category; except Teh Tarik Special (red) is left out. Each chip has exclude or include, to turn it round, and ✕ to take it away. With no chip at all it reads Every item on the bill.
  7. Category or Item: what you are about to add.
  8. Pick a category…: the category to add. With Item chosen, it is a search box instead: Search items by name or code…, and you click the dish in the list it shows. A dish already added says (already on).
  9. exclude: tick it before you add, to add the category or the dish as left out.
  10. Add: adds the category. A dish is added the moment you click it in the list.

A dish or category that has been switched off since still shows, with (off) after its name, so it can be seen and taken away.

Make a discount on a category, less some dishes

  1. Under What it gives, keep The same discount for everything below.
  2. In Discount, type 10 and keep %.
  3. Under Applies to, keep Category, choose Drinks in Pick a category…, and press Add. The chip all of Drinks appears.
  4. To leave a dish out: choose Item, tick exclude, type part of its name, and click it in the list. A red chip except … appears.
  5. Optional: a Cap per line and a Minimum spend.
  6. Set When and Where and how (see When, where and how it applies).
  7. Click Create.

Make an amount off each unit

  1. In Discount, type the amount, such as 1.00, and choose amount.
  2. Under Applies to, choose Item and click each dish, such as Teh Tarik.
  3. Click Create. Two Teh Tarik on one line get RM 2.00 off that line.

How it lands on a bill

  • The discount is worked per line, after the cashier's own discount on that line.
  • Skip lines the cashier discounted by hand is ticked on every new promotion (under Where and how): a line the cashier has already discounted by hand is left alone.
  • When several promotions fit one line, the one with the higher priority goes first. Unless it stacks, the lines it lands on are then taken: lower-priority promotions skip them, and Try it says "a higher-priority promotion already took those lines".
  • The bill and the receipt show the promotion's Name beside the money it took off.
