Every Main, Sub and Waiter POS opens on Sign in, every time it starts, and comes back to it after Log out. Whoever signs in is who the POS records for every bill, payment and shift until they log out.

A PIN and a password are both checked on the POS itself, against the list of who may sign in there that the POS keeps. So signing in works without the internet.

Before you start

  • You are a POS user with a POS code, a password, and perhaps a PIN, given to you in the back office. See POS users.
  • You may sign in at this outlet: your Outlets in the back office include it.
  • On a new restaurant, the owner signs in with the staff code owner and the password from the welcome email. See Sign in on the POS for the first time.

Three ways to sign in

The card has three forms, and a tap under Sign in goes from one to another:

FormYou typeSee
Staff code and passwordStaff code and PasswordSign in with a password
The PIN padYour PIN alone, no codeSign in with the PIN alone
Staff code and PINStaff code and PINOffered while somebody's PIN still needs its code. See Sign in with the PIN alone.

The screen, part by part

This is the Windows POS, on the staff code and password form. The Android POS has the same parts: see On Android.

Sign in on Windows: the logo on the left, the card on the right.
  1. The clock: the time to the second, large, and today's date under it, from the device's own clock. A 12-hour clock shows am or pm; a 24-hour one does not, as the device is set.
  2. EN: the language button. One tap shows this screen in the next language: EN, 中文, BM. On the sign-in screen it changes this screen only. See The language button.
  3. ☀: the Day / Night button. One tap is the other look, for the whole POS. See Day mode and Night mode.
  4. Which POS this is: the POS's code and its outlet, such as T01 · HQ. Check it before you sign in at an outlet with several POS.
  5. Staff code: your POS code. It starts with the code of the last person who signed in here. Press Enter in it to move to the password.
  6. ⌨: the POS's own on-screen keyboard, for a screen with no keyboard. Each box has one at its right end. See The on-screen keyboard.
  7. Password: your password, shown as dots. Press Enter in it to sign in.
  8. Sign in: signs you in. Grey until both boxes hold something. While it works it says Signing in….
  9. Use a PIN instead: the PIN pad. On the PIN pad, the same place says Use a password instead.
  10. Clock in / out: the staff attendance clock. It records a staff member's start and end of work; it does not sign anybody in to the POS. Shown only while somebody at the outlet has a clock PIN or password. See Staff Report › Attendance.
  11. Exit POS: closes the POS, after asking Exit the POS?. See Log out and Exit POS.
  12. The version line: the version of FooodPos on this device, and Powered by FooodPos.

  1. Check that the card names the right POS and outlet (such as T01 · HQ).
  2. In Staff code, type your POS code, or leave it if it is already yours. Press Enter.
  3. In Password, type your password. Press Enter, or press Sign in.
  4. The POS opens on the table screen (or the sales screen, on a POS with no tables), in your own POS language.

To use a PIN, press Use a PIN instead, key your PIN on the pad and press Sign in.

Whatever you typed is cleared when you switch forms, except the staff code.

Which form the screen opens on

Each time it opens, the card starts on one form, set per POS in the back office: POS Terminal Settings, the setting, General, Sign-in screen opens with. See POS Terminal Settings: General tab.

Sign-in screen opens withThe card opens on
As the POS choosesThe staff code and password. On an Android phone, or a tablet held upright, the PIN pad.
Staff code + passwordThe staff code and password, on every device.
PINThe PIN pad, or the staff code and PIN while the POS cannot find a PIN alone.

The tap under Sign in still switches, for that one sign-in. The setting is kept on the POS, so it works offline too.

What happens after you sign in

  • The POS speaks your POS language at once, offline too. See The language button.
  • It shows what you may do, by your POS access group. The cloud still checks every action for itself.
  • On a Main POS, if the subscription is nearly over, a notice says so first. See Notices at sign-in.
  • If the POS must have a shift open to sell, it asks for one. See Open a shift.

On Android: the sign-in card

The Android card has the same parts, in a slightly different order.

Sign in on an Android tablet.
  1. Which POS this is: the POS's code and outlet.
  2. What it is: Main terminal, Sub terminal or Waiter.
  3. Staff code: no keyboard key: the tablet's own keyboard opens. Its Next key moves to the password, and Done signs in.
  4. Exit POS: the whole width of the card.
  5. Clock in / out: under Exit POS, the whole width of the card.
On Android
  • Held upright (a phone, or a tablet turned upright), the FooodPos logo is a band across the top and the card opens on the PIN pad, its keys sized for a thumb, unless the back office's Sign-in screen opens with says otherwise.
  • On a phone, the card is tighter so nothing needs scrolling: the time and date at the left of one line with the POS and its outlet at the right; EN and ☀ up in the logo's band; Use a password instead and Exit POS on one line; Clock in / out on a line of its own.
  • The amber ! for a newer version sits under EN and ☀.
  • The card itself always stays light, in Night mode too.

What if…
