A taken table while the internet is down

A table shows guests, but its bill was made by a QR order or on another POS, and this POS cannot fetch it with the internet down. When a new bill opens at once, when the POS asks Start a new bill or Wait, what each does, and what happens when the line is back. On the Windows and the Android POS.

A table on the table screen shows guests, but this POS does not hold its bill: a QR order made it, or another POS did. Normally the POS fetches that bill from the cloud as you tap the table. With the internet down it cannot, and nobody can be left standing at the table with a dead screen. So the POS decides, or asks you one plain question.

FooodPos's rule is that this POS is the boss: you can always go on serving.

When the POS cannot fetch the bill

The POS tries to fetch the table's bill when the table is taken and it holds no bill for it. It gives up on the cloud when it already knows it is offline, or when the cloud has not answered within three seconds. Then:

At your outletWhat happens
This POS is the only one that could hold a bill: a Main POS, with no other Main, Sub or Waiter POS at the outletA new bill opens at once, as on a free table. No question: nobody else could have the bill.
Another POS could hold the billThe POS asks: Start a new bill or Wait.

A table this POS already holds a bill for opens at once, internet or not. A free table opens a new bill as always. Neither is ever asked.

The question

A taken table, no bill on this POS, no cloud: one plain question.
  1. The question: the table has guests, this POS has no bill for it, and the cloud cannot be reached. If another POS has its bill, start here only when you are sure.
  2. Wait: nothing is opened. Use it when the party's bill is on another POS: go to that POS, or wait for the line.
  3. Start a new bill: a new bill at the table, on this POS. Use it when you know the party has no bill elsewhere, or their order cannot wait.

Start a new bill

  1. Press Start a new bill.
  2. If this POS sells only with a shift open and none is, the shift is asked first. If it asks the number of guests, the pad comes up, empty, as on a free table.
  3. The sales screen opens on the new bill. Take the order as usual. It is saved on this POS and sent when the line is back.

When the line is back, the new bill reaches the cloud and joins the party the cloud has at the table, if it has one: both bills are kept, side by side, as a split table's are. Nothing is refused and nothing is lost. A tap on the table then shows both in the table window.

Wait

Press Wait. Nothing is opened, and the table screen says why:

Table T4's bill was made by a QR order or on another POS, and this POS does not have it yet. It will open here once this POS is back online.

When the internet is back, tap the table again. The POS says Bringing table T4's bill from the cloud…, then opens the table window with the bill. See The table window.

On Android

The question, its words and its two buttons are the same, with Start a new bill filled and Wait as a text button. An Android Main POS also counts the Sub and Waiter POS that work through it On your own network only as holding no bills of their own (the Main holds them), so with only those beside it, it opens the new bill without asking.
