POS terminals: Order board tab
The Order board tab of a POS whose operation mode is Order board. Where it gets its orders (its Main POS), what it shows and which orders, when a Ready order leaves, the sound and the voice that call an order, its look and welcome words, and its logo and photo.
On this page
An order board is a screen for your guests. Their orders show under Preparing, then move to Ready when the kitchen is done, in big type, and the board calls each one with a chime and, if you want, a voice. Staff can also call an order from any POS with its Order board key.
A POS whose operation mode is Order board has an Order board tab in its window, in place of the customer display's. Everything the board does is set there, and the tab has its own Save.
Before you start
- You are an Administrator or a Manager, and you may change the outlet.
- The board is added on the outlet's POS terminals tab with the operation mode Order board, and saved. See Outlets: POS terminals tab.
- An order is Ready when every kitchen screen has bumped it, or, when an expeditor station is set to be served at the pass, when the expeditor serves it. See Kitchen Stations: screen, pass and bump slips.
Open it
- In the menu, under MASTERS, click Outlet, then Outlets.
- Click Edit on the outlet's row, then the POS terminals tab.
- Click Edit on the board's row, then the Order board tab at the top of its window.

The main terminal must stay on, with FooodPos open.Main POSWhat it showsThe two columns, Preparing and Ready, each order in big type.
Show orders byA kiosk order by its number (A23), any other by its queue number or the last digits of its bill number.
5ReadyA Ready order is highlighted and called (Sound, below), and then leaves the board.
- Order board: the third tab of the board's window, in place of Customer display.
- The line on top: what a board shows and when an order is Ready, and that staff can call an order from any POS.
- Gets its orders: Through the internet: The board reads the outlet's orders from the cloud and needs its own internet. From a Main POS on your own network: The board reads its orders from the main terminal chosen below over your own network, as a kitchen display can, and needs no internet of its own. The main terminal must stay on, with FooodPos open. This is the one place the board's Main POS is chosen. A board added now starts on the Main POS on your own network.
- Main POS: the switched-on Main POS of the outlet the board reads from. Shown with From a Main POS on your own network. With no Main at the outlet, the box says This outlet has no main terminal yet, so the board reads its orders through the internet.
- Show orders by: what each order is shown as. Order number: A kiosk order by its number (A23), any other by its queue number or the last digits of its bill number. Table: A table bill by its table (T05); an order with no table by its number. Name: By the guest's name when the order has one (a kiosk or QR guest's, or the name on the bill); otherwise by its number.
- Show: the orders this board shows: an order is shown when it matches any box ticked. All ticked shows every order, and an order type added later too. One tick per order type of the restaurant, then Kiosk orders and Queue-number orders. Use it for a board that shows only take-away orders, for example.
- A Ready order leaves: After a number of minutes; When the bill is paid or closed (An order nobody pays leaves an hour after it became ready.); or When collected (Collected on the expeditor or a POS) (The number stays until someone presses Collected; one nobody collects leaves an hour after it became ready.).
- Minutes: with After a number of minutes: 1 to 60 minutes.
- Not saved yet: shown on a board whose tab has never been saved: what you see are its starting choices, and it reads through the internet until you save.
- Save: saves the whole tab. It says OB takes it within a minute. Close shuts the window without saving.
The tab, part by part: sound, look and pictures
Sound when an order is readyEvery order that turns Ready (the kitchen done, or called from a POS) is called on the board, one after another: "Now calling A101" across the board, the chime, and the words in the board's own voice.
Put {number} where the order's number is said. A101 is said "A, 1, 0, 1"; a guest's name is said as it is.
6LookAs the kitchen display's: day or night, and the size of the words.
On one line at the top, at most 60 characters.
8Your logo and photoPictures from the restaurant's files (the same files the customer display uses).
- Sound when an order is ready: Off: No sound. The board still shows "Now calling A101" for each order. Chime only: The chime, and "Now calling A101" on the board. Chime and voice: The chime, then the words below in the board's own voice. Orders turning Ready together are called one after another.
- Chime: Ding dong, Airport paging, four tones, Sharp bell, Airport, three tones rising, Airport, three tones falling, Terminal, long four tones and Service bell, each with ▶ Play to hear it here. A board on FooodPos before 0.2.26 plays the five newer chimes as Ding dong until it is updated.
- Volume: Normal, Loud or Loudest. The words are always said at full volume. The board's own volume buttons still decide how loud its speaker is.
- Voice language and Say it: the language of the words, English, 中文 or Bahasa Melayu, and whether they are said Once or Twice. Changing the language puts that language's standard words in Words, unless you typed your own.
- Voice: Any (the device's own voice), Female or Male: A female or male voice of the language where the board has one; otherwise its default voice.
- Words: what the board says, up to 120 characters. Put
{number}where the order's number goes. A101 is said "A, 1, 0, 1"; a guest's name is said as it is. The board itself speaks in its own voice.
- Look: Day or Night, and the Size of the words, from Smallest to Biggest. Welcome words: one line at the top, at most 60 characters.
