Taxes & Charges: Where it is not charged

Switch a tax or a charge off for order types (final), for categories (and everything inside them) or for single dishes, put a dish back with Charge anyway, the sentence that says what the tax does now, the warning about prices that already include the tax, and Save where it is not charged.

Every tax and charge has a Where it is not charged tab. It answers questions such as "no service charge on take-away", "no service charge on cigarettes" or "no SST on this one dish".

It holds three lists, and they are not the same:

  • Order types: switched off here, the whole bill goes without the charge, and nothing puts it back.
  • Categories: switched off here, every dish in the category, and in every category inside it, goes without it.
  • Dishes: one dish at a time, off, or Charge anyway to put one back after its category switched it off.

Before you start

  • You need Taxes & Charges, Edit. With View only, the tab can be read but not changed.
  • The tax must be saved. On a new tax the tab says Save this tax first. Then open it again and its switches can be set here.

Open the tab

  1. In the menu, under MASTERS, click General Setup, then Taxes & Charges.
  2. Click Where it is not charged on the row of the tax or charge. The window opens on that tab.

The top and the order types

The sentence that says what the charge does now, then the order types, where switching off is final.
  1. Where it is not charged: the tax's last tab.
  2. The sentence at the top: what this tax or charge does right now, read aloud: on how many of your switched-on dishes, and on which order types. It changes as you tick, before you save.
  3. Order types — switching it off here is final: the first list, with its rule under it.
  4. The plain sentence: the order types it is charged on, and those it is not.
  5. The note about the ticks: the ticks are where it is not charged.
  6. Order type: one row per order type, with its code in grey. Tick it to switch the charge off for every bill of that order type.
  7. Notes: To switch off (amber) or To switch back on (green) on a tick not saved yet, Inactive on an order type switched off, and on the service charge Order Types screen: no service charge where the Order Types screen says the same.

Categories

Categories: a section at a time, and everything inside it.
  1. Categories — a section at a time, and everything inside it: the second list, with its rule.
  2. A category's tick: switches the charge off for every dish in it.
  3. Already off — Liquor is switched off: a sub-category reached from the category above it. Unticking it alone changes nothing while the category above stays ticked.

Dishes

Dishes: one plate at a time, and what each one ends up paying.
  1. Dishes — one plate at a time: the third list, with its rule.
  2. Search code or name…: finds dishes by code, name or second-language name.
  3. All categories: shows one category's dishes only.
  4. Only the ones I have changed here: shows only the dishes this tax has a switch on. Inactive also shows switched-off dishes.
  5. Switch off all shown ticks Off on every dish the filters show, Switch back on all shown clears them. The count beside says how many of the dishes are shown.
  6. Off: this dish never pays this charge.
  7. Charge anyway: the dish pays it after all, although its category is switched off. It can be ticked only while its category is switched off.
  8. Right now: where the dish ends up: Charged, Not charged — this dish, Not charged — its category or Charged — put back. Also Follows the outlet on a dish taxed by its outlet, and on the service charge Items screen: no service charge.
  9. Charged — put back: a dish brought back with Charge anyway.
  10. The line at the foot: what is not saved yet, for example Not saved yet: switching off 1 category., or Nothing to save yet.
  11. Save where it is not charged: saves the three lists. Close closes the window; ticks not saved are dropped.

Switch a charge off for an order type

  1. Open the charge's Where it is not charged tab.
  2. Under Order types, tick each order type that should not pay it, for example Take Away and Delivery. The sentences above follow your ticks.
  3. Click Save where it is not charged. The big green SAVED says what moved, for example Saved order types (2 switched off).

Switch it off for a category, and put one dish back

  1. Under Categories, tick the category, for example Liquor. Its sub-categories show Already off — Liquor is switched off.
  2. Under Dishes, find the dish that should still pay it, for example by choosing Beer in All categories.
  3. Tick its Charge anyway. Right now says Charged — put back.
  4. Click Save where it is not charged.

Switch it off for single dishes

  1. Under Dishes, search for the dish, or choose its category.
  2. Tick its Off. To do every dish shown at once, press Switch off all shown.
  3. Click Save where it is not charged.
