A POS terminal setting is a named profile of how a POS behaves: whether a receipt prints when a bill is paid, how bills and receipts are numbered, the POS's language, what the order screen shows, whether a shift must be open to sell, and which print formats it uses. One setting can be used by many POS, at any outlet.

Every restaurant has a Default setting. Every POS behaves by it until another setting is applied to it. Make more settings when some POS should behave differently, such as bar tills that show the receipt before printing it.

Before you start

  • Only an Administrator or a Manager sees POS Terminal Settings in the menu.
  • A change reaches a POS at its next sync, within about a minute while it is online. It keeps working with the internet down.

Open POS Terminal Settings

  1. In the menu, under MASTERS, click Outlet, then POS Terminal Settings.
Outlet, POS Terminal Settings: one row per setting, the Default first.
  1. POS Terminal Settings: under MASTERS, in the Outlet category.
  2. The title and its line: How a POS behaves. Every POS uses the default unless another setting is applied to it.
  3. Show switched off: also lists the settings that are switched off, greyed.
  4. + New: makes a new setting. See Make a setting.
  5. Print receipt: Direct, Preview or No print: what happens when a bill is paid. See Printing tab.
  6. Order screen: a small square in the saved order colour (dashed: no colour), then how items merge: No merge, Merge within the same order or Always merge. Under it, when they apply: Sells without a shift (amber), Who served: and when it is asked, and Asks the weight.
  7. Sale / refund number: the receipt number's format and, under it, the refund number's, shortened: [POS] for the POS's code, [OUTLET] for the outlet's, YYMMDD for the date and the running number. Outlet standard when the setting has no format of its own.
  8. POS: how many POS use the setting.
  9. Status: Default (green): the restaurant's default, which every POS without a setting of its own uses. Active (green): a setting that can be applied. Switched off (grey): no POS uses it.
  10. The buttons of a setting: Apply to terminals opens the setting on its Apply to tab. Numbers shows each POS's next numbers. Edit opens the setting. The Default has no Disable.
  11. Disable / Enable: switches a setting off, or on again. See Switch a setting off.

The setting's window

Edit opens the window Edit BAR; + New opens New POS terminal setting. It has five tabs, and one Save for all of them.

The window of a setting: five tabs, one Save.
  1. General: the code and name, the bill and receipt numbers, and the POS's language and sign-in. See General tab.
  2. Order screen: the number of guests, merging items, what the order screen shows, and the saved order colour. See Order screen tab.
  3. Selling: shifts, who served, and items sold by weight. See Selling tab.
  4. Printing: the receipt when a bill is paid, the print formats, and the master slip. See Printing tab.
  5. Apply to: the POS that use this setting. See Apply to terminals.
  6. Save: saves every tab at once. A save refused for a box on another tab turns to that tab and says why under the tabs.

Make a setting

  1. Click + New. The window New POS terminal setting opens on General. It starts as No print, with today's order screen and light yellow saved orders.
  2. Type a Code, up to 20 characters, such as BAR, and a Name, such as Bar tills.
  3. Go through the tabs and change what should differ from the Default.
  4. On Apply to, tick the POS that should use it.
  5. Click Save. Without POS ticked, it says No POS uses it yet: tick them under Apply to; with POS ticked, Applied: and the POS.

A POS can also be given its setting on its own window: Outlets, the outlet, POS terminals, Edit, Orders & payments, Terminal setting. See Orders & payments.

Change a setting

  1. Click Edit on its row.
  2. Change it on any tab.
  3. Click Save. Every POS that uses it takes the change at its next sync.

The Default can be changed like any other. Its Code and name box says Every POS without a setting of its own behaves by the default, so it can be edited but never switched off.

Switch a setting off

  1. Click Disable on its row.
  2. Answer the question with OK: Switch off BAR? 1 POS uses it, and will go back to the default setting.
  3. It says BAR switched off. 1 POS went back to the default setting.

A setting switched off is kept, and its POS behave by the Default. To use it again, tick Show switched off and click Enable on its row: BAR switched on. Its old POS are not put back on it: apply it to them again.
