Print Formats: the kitchen slip
The ticket a kitchen station prints, part by part — the ADDITION / DELETE / REPRINT and LATE / KDS OFFLINE COPY banners, the station, the table, the dishes with their modifiers and notes — its Top, Dishes and Bottom tabs, and choosing a format on each kitchen station.
On this page
The kitchen slip is the ticket a kitchen station prints when the cashier presses Save & Fire: what to cook, for which table, with every modifier and note. Each kitchen station can print its own format: big dish names for the wok, a short slip for the drinks bar, labels for the bubble tea counter.
Its format is made on the Kitchen slip tab of Print Formats, in the same editor as the receipt (see Design a receipt). Labels for a label printer are in their own guide: Kitchen labels.
Before you start
- Only an Administrator or a Manager sees Print Formats.
- The kitchen stations exist, and each outlet's POS has a printer for them (Hardware, Printer on the POS). See Kitchen Stations.
The kitchen slip, part by part
- The banner: *** ADDITION *** on dishes added to a bill that already sent some, *** DELETE *** on a slip for dishes taken off, *** REPRINT *** on a ticket printed again. Under it, when it applies, LATE (a ticket the cloud listed as older than ten minutes) or KDS OFFLINE COPY (paper printed because the kitchen display was offline). A new order has no banner.
- Kitchen station: the station's name, its code when it has none.
- Ticket number, time and part: #0042 13:10, and 1/2 when the ticket is printed in parts.
- TABLE: TABLE T6, or the order type when there is no table. On a bill with a queue number, Queue A023 prints big under the station's name.
- Pax, Order type and server, Bill number: each on its own line, when there is one.
- Bill note: NOTE: and what the cashier wrote about the whole order.
- Dish: 2 x Nasi Lemak Ayam, tall. A set's own line is always bold.
- Modifiers: each under its dish, - Extra sambal.
- Dish note: * Less spicy, bold. Seat under it when the dish has one.
- Dish of a set: > 1 x Mee Goreng, under the set's line.
The kitchen slip's parts in the editor
The kitchen slip has three parts: Top, Dishes and Bottom.

- Top, Dishes, Bottom: the kitchen slip's three parts.
- TABLE (or the order type): Big and bold in the Standard, so the runner reads it from afar.
- An unticked part, such as Pax: struck through, and left off the slip.
- + Add a field: the Top's details the Standard does not print.
| Part (tab) | Fields | In the Standard |
|---|---|---|
| Top | *** ADDITION / DELETE / REPRINT *** banner, LATE / KDS OFFLINE COPY banner, Kitchen station, Queue number: Queue A023, Ticket number, time and part, TABLE (or the order type), Pax, Order type and server, Bill number, Bill note | all |
| Dishes | Dish: qty x name (a set is always bold), Dish second name, Dish of a set: > qty x name, Modifiers, Dish note, Seat, Item total price (with modifiers and qty) | all but Item total price |
| Bottom | Slip total | unticked |
Item total price prints a dish's amount at the right end of its line; Slip total adds up the whole slip at the foot. Both print only on a ticket that carries amounts, so a ticket from an older POS prints neither.
+ Add a field offers: Date, Round (which Save & Fire of the bill this is: Round 2), Time the bill was opened, Area / floor, POS that sent it and Customer name (Top); Item code (Dishes); Number of dishes (Bottom: Items 3).
The kitchen's cautions, shown while a part is unticked:
- The banner: Without this banner a cancelled dish looks like a new order to the kitchen.
- TABLE: Without the table the kitchen does not know where the dishes go.
- Modifiers: Without the modifiers the kitchen cooks the plain dish: no "less ice", no "extra spicy".
- The bill note, the dish line, the dishes of a set and the dish note have theirs too.
The samples
The sample list shows the slip as A new ticket: dishes, modifiers, a note and a seat or Set meals and their dishes, at 58 mm or 80 mm. The kitchen slip also offers label sizes beside the roll widths, and four label samples: see Kitchen labels.
