Order Types
Dine in, take away, delivery, QR, counter. Add an order type (Code, Name, Kind, Needs a table, Needs guest count, Service charge, Auto-send to kitchen, Pay before kitchen, Price level override, Colour), how the service charge tick and Masters > Taxes stay in step, and how the POS uses them.
On this page
An order type says what kind of order a bill is: Dine In, Take Away, Delivery, QR Order, Counter. It decides whether the bill sits at a table, whether it pays the service charge, and the prices it sells at.
A new restaurant has four: DINEIN (Dine In), TAKEAWAY (Take Away), COUNTER (Counter) and QR (QR Order). Take Away and Counter pay no service charge.
Before you start
- You need Order Types, View to see the screen, and Order Types, Edit to change it.
- To keep the service charge tick in step with Taxes & Charges, you also need Taxes & Charges, Edit.
- A price level must exist before an order type can sell at it. See Price Levels.
Open Order Types
- In the menu, under MASTERS, click General Setup, then Order Types.
- The page Order Types opens.
The screen, part by part
Order Types
Dine-in sends the cashier to the floor plan; the rest go straight to the order screen.

- Order Types: under MASTERS, in General Setup.
- The grey box: the service charge's rate and how many order types do not pay it, for example The service charge is 10%, set in Masters > Taxes. 3 order types do not pay it. On the screen it stands at the very top of the page, above the title. With no service charge it says This restaurant has no service charge yet. Add one in Masters > Taxes — a tax of the kind "service charge" — and then choose here which order types pay it.
- + New: adds an order type. Search… and Show inactive beside it find order types and list switched-off ones.
- Code: with the order type's colour in a small square before it.
- Kind: Dine in, Take away, Delivery, QR self-order or Counter.
- Table: Required when a bill of this type must sit at a table, Not used when it never does.
- Service charge: Applies, No, or a red No (out of step) when this screen and Taxes & Charges read differently. See The service charge tick.
- Auto-send: Yes or No, the Auto-send to kitchen tick.
- Edit and Delete.
Add an order type
- Click + New. The window New Order Type opens.
- Type a Code, such as DELIVERY, and a Name, such as Delivery.
- Choose its Kind.
- Tick what applies: Needs a table, Needs guest count, Service charge, Auto-send to kitchen, Pay before kitchen.
- Choose a Price level override if it sells at prices of its own, such as delivery-app prices.
- Click Save. The big green SAVED shows.
For delivery-app pricing. Blank uses the outlet default.
10Colour- Code: required, different from every other order type's.
- Name: required. What the POS and the bill call it.
- Second language: its name in a second language, shown under the name on the POS's order type button.
- Kind: Dine in, Take away, Delivery, QR self-order or Counter / quick service. The order type of the kind QR self-order is the one QR orders from guests' phones are opened on; the POS does not offer it to cashiers, unless it is the only one there is.
- Needs a table: Cashier must pick a table first. Off means this order type skips the floor plan entirely. At a table, the POS offers only order types that need one; away from a table (a quick sale), only those that do not.
- Needs guest count: Prompt for how many are dining. The cloud then wants a number of guests on every bill of this order type. Whether the POS asks for it is the POS terminal setting's Number of guests (Order screen tab).
- Service charge: Charge the service charge on this order type. Saved here and in Taxes & Charges together. See The service charge tick.
- Auto-send to kitchen: Fire each line as it is added.
- Pay before kitchen: Payment must be taken first.
- Price level override: the prices a bill of this order type sells at. For delivery-app pricing. Blank uses the outlet default. A table's own price level still comes first.
- Colour: a colour picker and its #RRGGBB box. It is the small square beside the code on the list.
- Display order: the order on the list and on the POS.
- Active: ticked, the order type can be rung.
The service charge tick
Whether an order type pays the service charge is written in two places: the Service charge tick here, and the order types ticked on the service charge's Where it is not charged tab in Taxes & Charges. A bill pays no service charge when either says no.
This screen keeps the two together:
- Saving an order type here also saves its line on Taxes & Charges. A line under the grey box says so, for example TAKEAWAY pays no service charge, on this screen and in Masters > Taxes.
- When they read differently (only Taxes & Charges can cause that), the column shows a red No (out of step). Point at it to read which screen says what. Nothing is overcharged: the order type pays no service charge.
- Without the right to edit taxes, the box says Changing the tick here saves it on the order type. The matching setting in Masters > Taxes needs permission to edit taxes, which you do not have, so ask somebody who does to keep the two in step.
See Taxes & Charges: Where it is not charged.
Order types on the POS
A new bill opens on its order type without asking: at a table, on the table's own Default order type, else the first order type that needs a table; away from a table, on the POS terminal's Order type. The cashier changes it afterwards from the order type on the sales screen.
- The line at the top: the whole bill is re-priced when its order type changes, and it cannot change once money has been taken.
- An order type: its name (and second-language name under it), Service charge applies or No service charge, and · this bill now on the one the bill is on.
- A price level: an order type with a Price level override says, for example, · Delivery prices.
See Order type and service type.
Change, switch off or delete an order type
- Edit, change it, Save. Every POS takes the change at its next sync.
- Untick Active to stop it being rung.
- Delete asks Delete "Delivery"?, If it has already been used it will be deactivated instead, so existing records stay intact. One used on a past bill is switched off: Deactivated — still used by past bills.
