POS terminals: Hardware tab

The Hardware tab of a POS in the back office. What the POS says it has plugged in, read only - its payment terminals, the receipt printer, cash drawer, scale, kitchen and master slip printers, what it runs as and its second screen, beside the report before - the screen direction of an Android POS, and the outlet's kitchen printers with when each last printed.

The Hardware tab of a POS shows what the POS itself says is plugged into it: its printers, cash drawer, scale, payment terminals and second screen. The POS sends this report by itself. The tab only reads it: printers, the drawer, the scale and the payment terminals are all set up on the POS, under its own Hardware screen.

It is most useful in two cases: to check a POS from far away, and to set up a new tablet like the old one. The tab keeps the report before the last one, so when a device is replaced its old settings are still there to copy by hand.

One thing is set here: the Screen direction of an Android POS.

Before you start

  • You are an Administrator or a Manager, and you may change the outlet. Changing the screen direction also needs the right to edit POS terminals.
  • The POS has been paired and opened at least once. A new POS has no Hardware tab until it is saved, and nothing to show until it reports.

Open it

  1. In the menu, under MASTERS, click Outlet, then Outlets.
  2. Click Edit on the outlet's row, then the POS terminals tab.
  3. Click Edit on the POS's row, then the Hardware tab at the top of its window.

The tab, part by part

Hardware, on an Android Sub POS whose tablet was replaced: what it reports now, beside what it reported before.
  1. Hardware: the second tab of the POS's window. It has no Save of its own except the screen direction's.
  2. Payment terminals: the card terminals the POS drives, PBB or Fiuu or both, as the POS last said. Each is one line, such as PBB at 192.168.1.60:85, set on the device or Fiuu on COM3 (9600), set on the device. Under it, when the POS has tested it: Connection checked and the time, or, in red, Connection check failed and the time. No payment terminal is set up on this POS. when it has none. Only a Main, a Sub or a Kiosk takes card payment, so any other POS says Only a Main POS, a Sub POS or a Kiosk takes card payment, so only one of those has a payment terminal. Which payment method uses which terminal is the method's Integration, in Payment Methods.
  3. Screen direction: for an Android POS only (and one whose platform is not set yet). See Set the screen direction of an Android POS.
  4. This POS: the POS's own report.
  5. The report line: when the POS reported, from which app version, on Windows or Android, and when it was last heard from.
  6. Now: what the POS says now, one line per part (below).
  7. Before: the report before, shown once there is one. A line that changed is in amber. The line under the table says when that report was made, and why it is kept: Kept so a replaced POS's settings can be copied onto the new one.
  8. Kitchen printers at this outlet: every kitchen printer of the outlet, shared by all its POS: its code and name, how it is reached (a network address, or USB on T01), its paper and its stations. Under it, when it last printed, and in red, when it is failing, its last error and why. A printer that is switched off is greyed and says Switched off. No kitchen printers yet. when there are none.

Set the screen direction of an Android POS

By itself, an Android POS keeps the screen direction chosen on the device, or turns upright on a phone. Here you can fix it from the back office instead.

  1. Open the POS's Hardware tab.
  2. In On this Android POS, choose one: Let the device choose, Landscape, Portrait or Turns with the device.
  3. Click Save screen direction. A big SAVED shows for a moment.
  4. The POS turns within about a minute, without a restart. Nothing on its screen is lost.

Any choice other than Let the device choose wins on the device: its Settings, Hardware, Screen then shows it as set in the back office. The line under the box: Let the device choose: the POS keeps its own choice (Settings > Hardware > Screen), or turns upright by itself on a phone. Any other choice is used on the POS instead, and its Screen setting shows it as set in the back office. The POS takes it within about a minute, without a restart.

A Windows POS has no such box. See Screen direction (Android).

Set up a replacement tablet like the old one

  1. Pair the new device. See Reload, Unpair code, Replace this Main POS.
  2. Open FooodPos on it once, so it reports.
  3. Open the POS's Hardware tab. Before has the old device's lines.
  4. On the new device, open Hardware and set each part as the Before column says: the receipt printer, the drawer, the scale, the kitchen printers, the master slip printer and the payment terminals.
  5. Open the tab again: the amber lines are the ones that still differ.

Where each part is set

Everything on this tab except the screen direction is set on the POS, in its own Hardware screen:

On Windows

Hardware, the list on the left: Printer (the receipt printer, the kitchen printers and the master slip printer), Print log, Scale, Drawer, Sound, Customer display, Pole display, Payment terminals, Backup copy on a Main POS working on its own network, and Check for update. A kiosk opens the same window from its staff menu, Settings. See Hardware.

On Android

The same list, with Screen after Payment terminals for the screen direction. A kiosk opens it from its staff menu, Settings. See Hardware.

Every print on the POS, printed or failed, is kept on that POS in its Print log for 14 days. The back office does not receive it.
