Payment Methods: Payment method groups
The grid of payment buttons a POS shows. Make a group (Code, Name, Rows, Columns), place the methods by dragging or by picking, Add the rest, apply it to POS terminals, and why the default group can never be switched off.
On this page
A payment method group is the grid of payment buttons a POS shows on its payment screen: which methods, in how many rows and columns, and where each one sits. The bar's POS can show Cash and cards only, the front counter every e-wallet as well.
Every restaurant has one default group, code DEFAULT, named Default. Every POS uses it until another group is applied to it. The default can be edited but never switched off, and a new payment method joins it by itself.
Before you start
- You need Payment Methods, Edit to make or change a group.
- To choose which POS use a group, you must be an administrator or a manager, with the right to edit POS terminals.
- Make the payment methods first: see Payment Methods.
Open Payment method groups
- In the menu, under MASTERS, click General Setup, then Payment Methods.
- Click the tab 🗂️ Payment method groups.
The list, part by part

1| Code | Name | Grid4 | Methods5 | POS6 | Status7 | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| DEFAULT | Default | 2 × 3 | 5 | 3 | Default | Apply to terminals Edit8 |
| BAR | Bar payments | 1 × 3 | 3 | 1 | Active | Apply to terminals Edit Disable9 |
- Payment method groups: the second tab of Payment Methods, with its line: The grid of payment buttons a POS shows. Every POS uses the default unless another group is applied to it.
- Show switched off: lists the groups that are switched off too, drawn paler.
- + New: makes a group. It starts as two rows of three, the shape of the default.
- Grid: rows × columns, such as 2 × 3.
- Methods: how many methods it holds.
- POS: how many POS terminals use it.
- Status: Default, Active or Switched off. Point at Default to read Every POS without a group of its own takes its payment buttons from the default, so it can be edited but never switched off.
- Apply to terminals opens the group at its Apply to part; Edit opens it at the top. The default has no Disable.
- Disable switches a group off; a switched-off group has Enable instead.
Make a group
- Click + New. The window New payment method group opens.
- Type a Code, such as BAR, and a Name, such as Bar payments.
- Set Rows and Columns, for example 1 and 3.
- Put the methods into the grid, as the next part shows.
- Under Apply to, tick the POS that use the group.
- Click Save. The big green SAVED says which POS now use it, for example Applied: T02 at HQ, or No POS uses it yet: tick them under Apply to.
Not in this group
Apply to
- Code: required, up to 20 characters, different from every other group's.
- Name: required, up to 100 characters.
- Rows and Columns: the grid's size, 1 to 20 rows and 1 to 8 columns. The POS draws its payment buttons in exactly this grid. On the default group a grey line under them says why it can never be switched off.
- The line over the grid: how to place methods. Drag one onto a cell, or click a method and then its cell. Dropping a method on another swaps the two.
- A placed method: its picture, code and name, its colour as a strip on the left, and × to take it out. A switched-off method is struck through.
- An empty cell: +. Click it, then a method in the list, to put that method there.
- Not in this group: the methods not in the grid, the switched-on ones first. Drop a method here to take it out of the grid. When every method is in, it says Every payment method is in the grid.
- Add the rest: puts every switched-on method not in the grid yet into the free cells, adding rows when the grid is full, up to 20.
- Apply to: every POS at the outlets you work at, under each outlet's code and name, with its kind (Main terminal, Sub terminal…) and All in this outlet and None. The ticked ones use this group. It is saved with the group by the one Save.
- A POS on another group shows that group's name beside it: grey when it is the default, amber uses Front payments when it is another. Ticking it moves it to this group.
- A POS that takes no money, such as a kiosk, a waiter tablet or a kitchen display, cannot be ticked, and the line under it says why. A kiosk's group is chosen on the kiosk itself: see Kiosks.
- The blue line: what the Save will change, for example When you save: 1 POS will use it, 1 will go back to Default.
- Save: saves the group, its grid and its POS together.
Change the grid
- Move a method: drag it onto another cell. Dropped on an empty cell it moves there; dropped on another method the two swap.
- Take a method out: press its ×, or drag it back to Not in this group.
- Make the grid smaller: a method left outside it shows an amber line, VISA sits outside the grid now. Make the grid bigger, or take it out., with Take it out. The group cannot be saved until every method is inside the grid.
Which POS use a group
A POS uses exactly one group: the default, or the one applied to it. There are three places to set it, and they are the same setting:
- Apply to in the group's window (above).
- Apply to terminals on the group's row, which opens the same window at Apply to.
- The POS's own page: Outlets, the outlet, POS terminals, Edit on the POS, Payment method group. See Orders & payments.
When a ticked POS uses another group (not the default), the back office asks before it saves, for example Apply "Bar payments"?, T02 at HQ now uses "Front payments" and will change to "Bar payments"., Nothing has been saved yet. Continue to save, or Cancel to go back. Press Continue to save, or Cancel to change the ticks. See Apply to terminals.
Unticking a POS puts it back on the default group. On the default group itself the POS cannot be unticked: This is the default payment method group: a POS always uses one, so the POS on it stay ticked. To move a POS off the default, apply another to it.
A POS takes the new group at its next sync.
Kiosks and their group
A kiosk's group is chosen on the kiosk: Outlets, the outlet, POS terminals, Edit on the kiosk, the Kiosk tab, Payment box, Payment method group. The kiosk takes its card and e-wallet methods from it: a method with the integration PBB or Fiuu card terminal for Credit card, one with iPay88 e-wallet (User Scan) for E-wallet. See Kiosk tab.
The group on the POS
- The buttons: the group's grid, each method in its cell, with its picture and name. A switched-off method is left out.
- Pay later, Deposit, Member: keys of their own, never cells of a group.
Switch a group off or on
- On the group's row, click Disable.
- The back office asks Switch off BAR?, and when POS use it, 1 POS uses it, and will go back to the default group.
- Click OK. The note says BAR switched off. 1 POS went back to the default group.
Enable switches it on again (BAR switched on.). The POS that went back to the default stay there until it is applied to them again.
