Print Formats: kitchen labels (label printers)
Kitchen slips printed as labels, one dish a label, for bubble tea and take-away cups — the 35 x 25, 50 x 30 and Custom sizes, one label per unit or per item line, Use the compact label layout, and the label designer (Start from the automatic layout, Start with an empty label, Remove the design).
On this page
A kitchen station can print its slips on a label printer instead of a paper roll: one sticker for each dish, stuck on the cup or the box. Three cups of milk tea print three labels, 1/3, 2/3 and 3/3, each with its own modifiers.
A label is a kitchen slip printed small, so its look is set in the station's kitchen slip format. Two ways:
- The automatic layout: the kitchen slip's parts, ticked, sized and bold as on a roll, laid onto the label by the cloud. Use the compact label layout gives a set that fits a small label.
- A label design: boxes you place yourself on the label, in millimetres, one design per label size.
Before you start
- Only an Administrator or a Manager sees Print Formats.
- A label printer (a TSPL printer, such as Xprinter XP-360B or XP-365B), set up on the outlet's POS as the station's printer, with its label size: on the POS, Hardware, Printer, or on Kitchen Stations. See Label printers.
- A POS app that prints labels: an older app does not print to a label printer.
See the slip as labels
- In Print Formats, click the tab Kitchen slip, then Copy on the Standard (or Edit on your format).
- Above the sample, choose the label size: 35 x 25, 50 x 30 or Custom.
- For Custom, type the width and height in millimetres.
- Choose how labels print: One label per unit or One label per item line.
- Choose a label sample, such as Label: a short dish.
- 35 x 25 and 50 x 30: the two usual label sizes, in millimetres, beside 58 mm and 80 mm for a roll. Point at one to read A label printer's label, in millimetres.
- Custom: a label of your own size. Two boxes appear for the width and the height, in mm. A label is 20 to 110 mm wide and 15 to 150 mm high.
- How labels print: One label per unit (3 cups print 3 labels: 1/3, 2/3, 3/3) or One label per item line (one label saying 3 x). Here it only changes the sample: the real choice is the kitchen station's.
- The sample: Label: a short dish, Label: a dish with many modifiers, Label: a Chinese name or Label: a DELETE slip, as well as the two roll samples.
- Start from the automatic layout: turns what the automatic layout prints for this sample into boxes you can move. See Design a label.
- Start with an empty label: a design with nothing on it yet.
- The labels: what the label printer prints for this ticket, one box per label, in real proportions.
- The line under the labels: where the label printer and its size are set, and that a design belongs to one size.
Use the compact label layout
A kitchen slip format made for a roll prints too much for a small label. Use the compact label layout sets the format's parts to a small, sensible label in one press: the table or order type, the ticket number and time, the dish, its modifiers and its note, with the rest switched off and the line spacing compact.
- In the kitchen slip format, under the part tabs, click Use the compact label layout.
- The sample turns to a 35 x 25 label when it was on a roll.
- Adjust any part afterwards, as on a roll, and Save.
Point at the button to read For a label printer: the table or order type, the ticket number and time, the dish, its modifiers and note. Adjust it afterwards. A dish with four modifiers fits a 35 x 25 mm label at these sizes.
Design a label
A design places each part of the label yourself: a box for the dish, a box for the modifiers, your shop's name in a corner. It belongs to one label size; a format can have up to four designs, one for each size.
- Choose the label size on the sample, such as 35 x 25.
- Click Start from the automatic layout (or Start with an empty label).
- The label is drawn large, with a dashed box for each part. Drag a box to move it; pull a corner or an edge to resize it.
- To add a part, choose it in + Add to the label…. Free text may be added as often as you like.
- Click a box to choose it, and set its size, bold, alignment and letter style in the bar above.
- Click Save.
- + Add to the label…: every part a label can print that the design has not placed yet: the two banners, Kitchen station, Ticket number, time and part, Date, Round, Time the bill was opened, TABLE (or the order type), Area / floor, Pax, Order type and server, Bill number, POS that sent it, Customer name, Bill note, Dish name (with its quantity when one label is a whole line), Dish second name, Item code, Modifiers, Dish note, Seat, Item total price, Counter: 1/3, 2/3, 3/3 (one label per unit) and Free text. Beside it, how many parts are on the label. A design holds up to 40.
- The chosen box's bar: its name (a Free text box has a box for The words it prints, up to 60 characters), Remove from the label, its Size with − and +, Bold, Left / Centre / Right, its Letter style (as the format, or one of its own), and its place and size in millimetres: From left, From top, Width, Height.
- The label: drawn larger than it prints, with the sample ticket's words in each box. A box whose part has nothing to say on this sample shows its name instead. Every box snaps to 0.5 mm, stays inside the label and is at least 2 mm each way.
- The size line: the label's size, and how much larger it is drawn.
- Start from the automatic layout: replaces the design with what the automatic layout prints. The back office asks first: Replace this design with the automatic layout?
- Remove the design: this label size goes back to the automatic layout. The line beside says Designed for 35 x 25 mm., and when the format has more, This format has designs for 35 x 25 mm, 50 x 30 mm.
How labels print
- A label printer prints each label as a picture, so a letter style comes out on it too.
- One label per unit: a line of 3 prints 3 labels, numbered 1/3 to 3/3. One label per item line: one label that says 3 x. This is set on each kitchen station: Kitchen Stations, its label printer, Labels print; the POS's kitchen printer screen has the same choice.
- A design is for one size. A printer whose labels are another size prints the nearest design as it is, cut at the edges, and the warning says This format has no design for a 50 x 30 mm label: the 35 x 25 mm design prints as it is, and what falls outside the label is cut. Make a design for this size.
- Reset to the Standard removes the designs too, and asks first: Reset to the Standard also removes the label design (35 x 25 mm). Reset?
- The Slip total never prints on a label: The slip total does not print on labels: a label is one dish.
