POS Terminal Settings: Selling tab

The Selling tab of a POS terminal setting. Whether a shift must be open before the POS sells, whether it asks who served an item as it is added (Off, Every item, or the items marked Required Staff), and whether it asks the weight of an item sold by weight.

The Selling tab of a POS terminal setting holds three rules for the moment a cashier sells: whether a shift must be open first, whether the POS asks which staff served each item, and whether it asks the weight of an item sold by weight.

Before you start

  • You are an Administrator or a Manager.
  • To ask who served only some items, tick Required Staff on those items first, on their General tab in Items. See Items.
  • An item is sold by weight when Sold by weight / measure is ticked on its Pricing tab. A POS with a scale reads the weight from it. See Items: Pricing and The scale (ACLAS OS2).

Open it

  1. In the menu, under MASTERS, click Outlet, then POS Terminal Settings.
  2. Click Edit on the setting's row, then the Selling tab.

The tab, part by part

Selling: shifts, who served, and items sold by weight.
  1. A shift must be open to sell: on unless you untick it. On a main or sub POS, nothing is sold — no new bill, no item, no payment, no refund — until a shift is opened on that POS with its float. It works offline. Waiter tablets and kitchen screens are never asked. Unticked, the list shows the setting with an amber Sells without a shift.
  2. Ask who served when an item is added: Off: Nothing is asked. Items count for whoever serves the bill. Every item: Asked for every item added. Cancel adds it anyway, counted for whoever serves the bill. Items marked Required Staff — can skip: Asked only for items ticked Required Staff. Cancel adds it anyway, counted for whoever serves the bill. Items marked Required Staff — must choose: Asked only for items ticked Required Staff, and somebody must be picked: Cancel does not add the item (its modifier answers are dropped too).
  3. The line under it: where Required Staff is ticked, and that The bill's server is picked already; one tap confirms. Works offline, from the staff this POS last pulled. Who served an item decides whose commission it counts for. See Commission.
  4. Sold by weight: what happens when an item sold by weight is picked.
  5. Ask the weight when a sold-by-weight item is picked: off unless ticked. Picking an item sold by weight — from the menu, the code box or the search list — opens the number pad for its weight at once, with Read scale where the POS has a scale. Cancel does not add the item. Off: it goes on at 1, and the weight is typed on its line.
  6. Save: saves every tab of the setting at once.

What the cashier sees

On the POS: a shift to open first, who served, and the weight.
  • A shift must be open to sell: on a Main or Sub POS with no shift open, the POS says Open a shift to start selling and offers Open shift. See Open a shift.
  • Who served: adding an item asks, for example, Who served Nasi Lemak?, with the bill's server marked now. One tap picks. Skip — add without staff adds it for whoever serves the bill; with Items marked Required Staff — must choose, the button is Cancel — do not add. See Add dishes.
  • Sold by weight: picking the item opens the number pad for its weight: Sold by weight: read the scale, or type the weight. Cancel does not add it., with ⚖️ Read scale on a POS with a scale.

Let a POS sell without a shift

  1. Open the setting the POS uses, and its Selling tab.
  2. Untick A shift must be open to sell.
  3. Click Save.

The list then shows the setting with an amber Sells without a shift. A shift is what counts the drawer at its close, so keep it ticked on any POS that takes cash.
