The Orders & payments sub-tab of a POS decides how its bills start, which payment buttons and system buttons it shows, how it behaves, whether it opens on the table plan or straight on the sales screen, and what it is allowed to do.

It is there for a Main, a Sub and a Waiter. A kitchen display, an order board and a kiosk take no money, so they do not have it.

Before you start

  • You are an Administrator or a Manager, and you may change the outlet.
  • The lists it chooses from are made elsewhere: order types in General Setup, Order Types; payment method groups in General Setup, Payment Methods; terminal settings in Outlet, POS Terminal Settings; System Button profiles in Outlet, System Button.

Open it

  1. In the menu, under MASTERS, click Outlet, then Outlets.
  2. Click Edit on the outlet's row, then the POS terminals tab.
  3. Click Edit on the POS's row, then the Orders & payments sub-tab.

Order type, payments and setting

The first box: how a bill starts, and which buttons and setting the POS uses.
  1. Default order type: the order type a new bill starts as on this POS, such as Dine In or Take Away. Outlet default leaves it to the outlet. See Order Types.
  2. Payment method group: the payment buttons this POS shows, and where. Default — … is the restaurant's default group, named after it; the others are the groups switched on, as code — name. See Payment method groups.
  3. Terminal setting: the POS terminal setting this POS behaves by: its language, sign-in, order screen, printing. The line under it says how that setting prints receipts, such as Print receipt: Direct. See POS Terminal Settings.
  4. System Button profile: the buttons this POS shows under its table screen and its sales screen. All buttons is the built-in profile: every button. See System Button.

A group, setting or profile switched off since is still listed by its name, so the window never changes it quietly. A save keeps it until you choose another.

Start screen and queue number

For a Main or a Sub POS: where it opens, and whether every bill gets a queue number.

Start screen and queue number: Sales screen only, and a running number on every bill.
  1. Table plan: the POS opens on the table plan, as usual.
  2. Sales screen only (no tables): for fast food. The POS opens on the sales screen with a new bill, and after a payment, hold, cancel or void goes straight to a fresh empty bill. No table plan. It works offline as any sale does. See Sales screen only.
  3. Queue number on every bill: a running number printed big on the receipt and the kitchen slip, and shown on the kitchen display, the expeditor and the order board. It needs Sales screen only: without it the line says Needs Sales screen only. The POS gives the number when the bill is paid, never before, so a bill cancelled before payment uses none.
  4. Prefix: up to 4 characters before the number, such as A. Leave it empty for numbers alone.
  5. Start at: the first number, from 0 to 99999. 1 to start.
  6. Up to: the last number before it starts again, bigger than Start at, at most 999999. 999 to start.
  7. Digits: how many digits the number prints with, from 1 to 6: 3 prints A001.
  8. Start again: Every business day, the default, or Never (only after "Up to").
  9. The example: how the numbers will print, such as Prints as A001, A002 ... A999, then A001 again; back to A001 at the start of every business day.

What it may do

What it may do: the POS's rights, and whether it is in use.
  1. May take payment: only a Main or a Sub takes money. Unticked, Pay is greyed on the POS and the cloud refuses money taken on it. On a Waiter it is off and cannot be ticked: A waiter tablet never takes payment: its bills are paid at a main or sub terminal.
  2. May void: whether bills may be voided on this POS. Unticked, the cloud refuses a void made on it.
  3. May run day end: whether the POS has a shift of its own and may close the outlet's day. A Main always has it, ticked and dimmed: A main terminal always opens and closes its own shift and may close the outlet's day. A Waiter never: A waiter tablet has no shift and no day end: it takes no money. The day is closed at a main terminal, or a sub terminal that may run it. A Sub has it until you untick it (below).
  4. Active: whether the POS is in use. Untick it to switch the POS off: it is greyed in the list and no longer counts against your licence.

A Sub with no shift of its own

Unticked on a Sub, May run day end means the Sub has no shift and no day end. It sells only while its Main's shift is open, which it checks directly with the Main on your own network, and the money it takes is counted with the Main's drawer. The line under the tick says so: This POS has no shift and no day end of its own. It sells only while T01's shift is open, …

It can be unticked only when the Sub is linked to a Main whose link to its Sub and Waiter POS is on. Until then the tick is dimmed on, with a line saying what to do, such as To untick this, first open T01 (POS terminals, Edit T01, Operation), choose "Through the internet" and save: … A Sub being linked to its Main on this save is told This can be unticked after this POS is saved: …

Change the settings

  1. Change the boxes and ticks on Orders & payments.
  2. Click Save. The POS takes them at its next sync; to send them at once, press ⋯, Reload on its row.
