POS terminals: Shift & day end

The Shift & day end sub-tab of a POS. What it prints by itself, Print or No print, when a shift is closed on it and when the day is closed - Close shift: print the X reading, Day end: print the X reading, Day end: print the Z reading - and how to print a reading that was kept.

The Shift & day end sub-tab decides which papers a POS prints by itself when a shift is closed on it and when the day is closed. Each of the three is Print or No print.

No print only skips the paper. The reading is still worked out, saved on the POS and sent to the cloud, and it can be printed from the POS whenever somebody wants it. Use it to save paper when nobody reads a slip, or when only the Main POS should print the day's Z reading.

A Main, a Sub and a Waiter have this sub-tab. A waiter tablet keeps no shift, so the switches change nothing on it. A kitchen display, an order board and a kiosk do not have the sub-tab.

Before you start

  • You are an Administrator or a Manager, and you may change the outlet.
  • Every POS starts on Print for all three, which is what the POS apps always did.

Open it

  1. In the menu, under MASTERS, click Outlet, then Outlets.
  2. Click Edit on the outlet's row, then the POS terminals tab.
  3. Click Edit on the POS's row, then the Shift & day end sub-tab.

The sub-tab, part by part

Shift & day end: three papers, each Print or No print.
  1. Shift & day end: the last sub-tab of Settings.
  2. Printing at close shift and day end: the one box on this sub-tab. Its grey line says what No print means: What this POS prints by itself. No print only skips the paper: the reading is still saved, and can be printed again from the POS's shift and day end screens.
  3. Close shift: print the X reading: The shift's X reading (the shift slip), printed as the shift is closed on this POS. Choose Print or No print.
  4. Day end: print the X reading: This POS's shift slip, printed when a day end closes its shift — run on this POS, or on the main POS. A day end closes every drawer still open. When the Main POS runs it and closes this POS's shift too, this switch decides whether this POS's slip prints.
  5. Day end: print the Z reading: The day's Z reading, printed when this POS runs the day end. It matters on the POS that runs the day end, usually the Main POS.
  6. The line under the box: A POS takes a change at its next sync and keeps it with the internet down. One not yet updated prints as before.
  7. Save: saves every sub-tab of Settings at once.

What Print and No print do

WhenPrintNo print
A shift is closed on this POSThe shift slip prints at once.Nothing prints. The slip is kept on the POS.
A day end closes this POS's shiftThis POS's shift slip prints.Nothing prints for its shift.
This POS runs the day endThe Z reading prints after the day is closed.Nothing prints. The Z reading is kept.

The POS decides at the moment the shift or the day is closed, from what it last took from the cloud, so it works with the internet down too.

Stop a POS printing a reading by itself

  1. Open the POS's Shift & day end sub-tab, as above.
  2. In the line of the paper, choose No print.
  3. Click Save. The window closes and the list shows the POS again.
  4. The POS takes the change at its next sync, within about a minute while it is online. To send it now, click ⋯ on the POS's row, then Reload.

To print it by itself again, choose Print and save.

A paper set to No print is never shown on the POS as one that "did not print". When somebody wants it, print it from the POS's own screens:

  • The shift slip: on the Shift closed screen, right after closing, press Print the slip. Later, on the screen that opens the next shift, press Print the last shift’s slip (kept, not printed). See Close a shift and count the cash.
  • The Z reading: on the Day End screen, press Print again (reprint) right after the day is closed, or Reprint last Z at any time. See The Z reading and its reprint.
  • The figures so far: Print X reading, on the Shift screen or the Day End screen, prints an X reading now. It closes nothing. See Print an X reading.
