POS Terminal Settings: General tab

The General tab of a POS terminal setting. Its code and name; the bill and receipt numbers (pending, receipt, refund, invoice, payment receipt and deposit), each the default or a format of its own; and the POS language and how the sign-in screen opens.

The General tab of a POS terminal setting holds three boxes: what the setting is called, how the POS that use it number their bills and receipts, and the language their screens speak before anybody signs in, with how their sign-in screen opens.

Before you start

  • You are an Administrator or a Manager.
  • To change how numbers look, read Number formats first: a receipt number is a record your tax books may rely on.

Open it

  1. In the menu, under MASTERS, click Outlet, then POS Terminal Settings.
  2. Click Edit on the setting's row. The window opens on General.

The tab, part by part

General: the setting's name, its numbers, and the POS's language and sign-in.
  1. Code and name: Code, up to 20 characters, and Name, up to 100. Both are needed. The Default setting says here Every POS without a setting of its own behaves by the default, so it can be edited but never switched off.
  2. Bill and receipt numbers: one series per kind of paper, each numbered by every POS on its own.
  3. Pending number (a bill not paid yet): the number a bill carries while it is open. Default pending number (SP-HQ-T01-000123), or Its own format.
  4. Receipt number (given when a bill is paid): Default receipt number (HQ-T01-2610-000001), or Its own format. Refund number: Outlet's standard refund numbering (RFHQ2610-000123), shared by every POS of the outlet, or Its own format. Choosing Its own format opens the format's pieces. See Number formats.
  5. The account series: Invoice number (a bill on Pay later), Payment receipt number (a debt knocked off) and Deposit number, each with its default (INV-…, PR-…, DP-…) or its own format. Not shown while Pay later is switched off for your restaurant; their formats are kept.
  6. The line under the numbers: the pending number from the moment a bill is opened, the receipt number only when it is paid, and where the outlet switches to that: its Numbering sub-tab. See Outlets: Numbering.
  7. POS language and sign-in: what the POS on this setting speak, and how their sign-in screen opens.
  8. Default POS language: English, 简体中文 (Chinese) or Bahasa Melayu (Malay). The language of the sign-in screen, and of anybody who has not chosen a POS language of their own. A person's own language, set on their POS user or with the POS's language button, always wins. Printed bills, receipts and kitchen tickets stay in English.
  9. Sign-in screen opens with: As the POS chooses, Staff code + password or PIN (below).
  10. Save: saves every tab of the setting at once.

How the sign-in screen opens

ChoiceThe sign-in screen opens on
As the POS choosesThe staff code and password on a Windows POS and a wide Android screen; the PIN pad on an Android phone or tablet held upright. As before.
Staff code + passwordThe staff code and password.
PINThe PIN pad, or the staff code and PIN where a PIN still needs its code.

The line under it: How the sign-in screen of the POS on this setting opens. PIN opens the PIN pad (or the staff code and PIN, where a PIN still needs its code). "Use a PIN instead" or "Use a password instead" still switches for one sign-in. As the POS chooses: the staff code and password, or the PIN pad on an Android phone or tablet held upright, as today. It works offline.

On the POS, Use a PIN instead and Use a password instead still switch for one sign-in. See Sign in.

Give the bar tills a Chinese sign-in screen

  1. Open the bar tills' setting with Edit.
  2. In Default POS language, choose 简体中文 (Chinese).
  3. Click Save.
  4. At their next sync, the bar tills' sign-in screen speaks Chinese. Whoever signs in sees their own POS language, if they chose one.
