POS Terminal Settings: Order screen tab

The Order screen tab of a POS terminal setting. Whether the number of guests (pax) must be keyed, how a tap merges into a line already on the bill, the order time, balance quantity and prices on the order screen, and the colour saved orders are shaded in when a table is opened again.

The Order screen tab of a POS terminal setting decides how the sales screen behaves on the POS that use it: whether a table's new bill asks how many guests, what a second tap on the same dish does, what the screen shows beside each item and on the menu buttons, and how the orders already sent to the kitchen are shaded.

Before you start

  • You are an Administrator or a Manager.
  • These settings work offline. A POS app from before one of them ignores it until it is updated.

Open it

  1. In the menu, under MASTERS, click Outlet, then POS Terminal Settings.
  2. Click Edit on the setting's row, then the Order screen tab.

The tab, part by part

Order screen: guests, merging, what the screen shows, and the saved order colour.
  1. Number of guests (pax) must be keyed: off until you tick it. Opening a table for a new dine-in bill asks how many guests, and will not go on without a number of 1 or more. Cancel goes back and nothing is opened. Take away, counter and quick sales are not asked, and a bill that already exists (a QR order, another POS's bill, a table moved or split) is not asked again. Off: the POS does not ask, and a new bill opens with 1 guest, as today.
  2. Merge items: what a second tap on a dish already on the bill does. No merge: Every tap adds a new line. Merge within the same order: A tap on an item already in this order raises its line. Items added after Save & Fire start new lines. Always merge: The same item shows as one line, old order or new; the kitchen still gets only what is new.
  3. Show order time on each item: The time the item was rung, beside "sold by". Off unless ticked.
  4. Show balance qty on menu buttons: The "N left" count. SOLD OUT always shows. On unless unticked.
  5. Show price on menu buttons: Off hides every price; on follows each button's own setting. On unless unticked. A button's own price setting is in the Menu Designer.
  6. The colour: click it to pick a colour.
  7. The colour's code: # and six hex digits, such as #FFF6C8. Type it to match your brand.
  8. Reset to light yellow: back to #FFF6C8, the colour every setting starts with.
  9. No colour (plain bill, as before): no shading. The colour typed is kept, so unticking brings it back.
  10. The preview: three saved orders in turn: the 1st and 3rd in the colour, the 2nd in a lighter shade of it, so two orders side by side can be told apart. Items not sent yet, New — not fired, are not shaded.
  11. Save: saves every tab of the setting at once.

What the cashier sees

When Number of guests (pax) must be keyed is ticked, opening a free table for a new dine-in bill shows the number pad first.

On the POS: the number of guests, asked before a table's bill opens.

Without a number of 1 or more it says Key the number of guests, 1 or more. Cancel goes back to the tables and opens nothing.

With Merge within the same order, tapping Teh Tarik three times before Save & Fire gives one line 3 Teh Tarik. After Save & Fire, a new tap starts a new line, so the kitchen sees the new round apart. With Always merge the bill keeps one line, and the kitchen still gets only the new ones.

Set the saved order colour

  1. On Order screen, click the colour, or type its code, such as #DBEAFE for light blue.
  2. Check the preview.
  3. Click Save. At their next sync, the POS that use the setting shade saved orders in that colour.
