The table screen is where every shift starts and ends. After you sign in on a Main, Sub or Waiter POS, it shows your restaurant's floor, table by table, as the back office's Table Plan draws it. You tap a table to open its bill, and the buttons around the floor take you to everything else: shifts, QR orders, refunds, the day end and the settings.

This guide walks round the whole screen, part by part.

Before you start

  • Draw the floor first. The tables come from the back office: Room, Table Plan. See Table Plan.
  • A POS set to Sales screen only has no table screen. It opens on the sales screen instead. See A POS with no tables: sales screen only.
  • What you see depends on you and on this POS. Some buttons show only for someone with the right, only on a Main POS, or only when your plan includes the feature. A button you do not see is not broken: it is not yours here.

The screen, part by part

This is the Windows POS. The Android POS has the same parts; its differences are below.

The table screen (Windows): the top bar, the floor, the orders panel and the bar of the day's work.
  1. The FooodPos logo: tap it for About this POS: who this POS is registered to, when the subscription ends, its version, terminal and outlet. See About this POS.
  2. Tables: the screen's name. A Waiter POS does not show it, to leave room on a phone.
  3. 3 unsynced, in amber: work done on this POS that has not reached the cloud yet. Tap it to send it now. See Unsynced and refused work.
  4. 1 refused, in red: work the cloud refused and will not take again. Tap it to see what, and why. It stays until a manager has dealt with it.
  5. 2 QR waiting, in green: QR orders from guests that wait for someone here. Tap it to open the QR orders. Right-click it, or hold it with a finger, to close or open QR ordering. Other chips can stand here too: QR closed in red while QR ordering is closed, and a grey trial chip such as Trial: last day tomorrow in a free trial's last three days.
  6. ⏰ Clock in / out: the staff clock. It is there only while someone at the outlet has a clock PIN or password. It opens the clock window over this screen; whoever is signed in stays signed in.
  7. 🔄 Refresh: sends what is waiting to the cloud, then fetches the newest table plan, menu and settings. While it works it spins and says Refreshing….
  8. ⌨: the On-screen keyboard. It docks at the bottom of the screen and types into the box you tapped. See The on-screen keyboard and number pad (Windows).
  9. EN: the language button: EN, 中文 or BM. See The language button.
  10. ☀: Day mode, or 🌙 Night mode. See Day mode and Night mode.
  11. ⚙ Settings: the menu of the buttons you need once a shift, if that. See The Settings menu.
  12. The floor tabs: one per floor, such as Main hall and Terrace, shown when the outlet has more than one. The floor on screen is white. Tap another to see its tables.
  13. The tables: each where the Table Plan puts it, in its own shape, the whole plan made to fit the screen. A free table shows its code and seats (4 seats); a taken one its guests (2 pax) and its bill so far (RM 18.90). Tap a table to open it. See Open a table and What a table's colour says.
  14. The colour key: Free, Seated, Billed, Reserved and Out of use, under the floor. When the floor turns a table's colour after a time, Over 90 min is added.
  15. Orders: the QR orders waiting, and the quick sales saved on this POS, under five filter chips. It is there for someone with the QR Incoming Orders right, or while this POS has a quick sale saved. See The orders panel.
  16. The bar of the day's work: Shift, QR, Queue, Kept items, Bookings, Day end, Refund and more. See The bar of the day's work.
  17. ⚡ Quick sale: a new bill with no table, in one tap. See Quick sale.

Under the bar, along the very bottom of the screen, runs the status bar: this POS, its shift, the subscription, the version, who is signed in, the time and this device's address. See The POS status bar.

The settings menu

Tap ⚙ at the top right. The menu opens under it. Tap anywhere else, or press Esc on Windows, to close it without choosing.

The Settings menu, top to bottom.
  1. Print log: every print on this POS, printed or failed, with the kitchen tickets that need a person at the top.
  2. Hardware: the printer, the scale and the cash drawer on this counter. See Hardware.
  3. Last bill: this POS's bills of the day: see, reprint, save or email one. Only for someone who may look at bills. See Last bill.
  4. Reports: this POS's own sales, voids, refunds, items and commission. Only for someone with a reports right. See Reports on the POS.
  5. Menu design: add an item or a category, change a price, put modifiers on an item. Only for someone with Menu design on the POS. It needs the internet. See Menu design on the POS.
  6. Log out: back to the sign-in screen. Bills stay as they are.
  7. Exit POS: closes the POS, in red. It asks first, and says whether everything has reached the cloud. See Log out and Exit POS.

On Android, Last bill carries 🧾 and Menu design 🍽️. Everything else is the same.

The bar of the day's work

The keys along the bottom are the day's work. Each is drawn only where it can be used, and the others close up. Your restaurant's System Button profile can hide keys too.

Look at another floor

  1. Tap the floor's tab under the top bar, such as Terrace.
  2. Its tables show, with the colour key under them.

The tabs show only when the outlet has more than one floor. Each floor keeps its own settings for what a taken table shows: see Table Plan: what a taken table shows.

Bring the newest from the cloud

  1. Tap 🔄 at the top right.
  2. It spins and says Refreshing…. The work waiting on this POS goes first; then the newest table plan, menu and settings come down.
  3. When it stops, the screen shows what the cloud has now.

You rarely need it: the POS sends its work by itself as soon as it can, and the cloud tells it when the menu or the settings change.

On Android: the table screen

The Android POS has the same parts in the same places, with these differences:

  • No ⌨ button. The top bar has ⏰, 🔄, EN, ☀ and ⚙.
  • The chips sit beside the logo, after Tables, and wrap onto a second row when there are many.
  • A taken table shows its total without RM: 2 pax, then 18.90.
  • The orders panel is drawn only on a screen wide enough to leave the floor room beside it, a tablet held sideways. On a phone the QR orders are reached from the QR key.
  • The bar scrolls sideways when it holds more keys than the screen is wide. Quick sale stays put at its right.
  • A message over the tables closes with ✕, not OK.
The table screen on an Android tablet.
  1. ⏰, 🔄: Clock in / out and Refresh, as on Windows. While Refresh works its picture spins and Refreshing… shows beside it.
  2. EN: the language button, with ☀ and ⚙ beside it. There is no keyboard button.
  3. A taken table: its guests and its total, without the currency.

On a phone held upright the top line has room for the logo and four buttons only: Tables and the chips go on a line of their own under it, with ⏰ at that line's end. See Taking orders on a phone or an upright tablet.
