Update the POS apps
Keep every FooodPos device on the newest version. The round ! that appears when a new version is out, Download and install, Later, Check for update in Settings, Hardware, the Main POS first, the release notes, updating by hand from the POS apps page, and every message.
On this page
FooodPos puts out new versions of the POS apps, with fixes and new features. From version 0.2.53, every device finds them by itself: a round amber ! appears on its screen, and one press installs the new version. Your bills, your pairing and your settings stay as they are.
A device on a version before 0.2.53 has no !: update it once by hand, from the back office's POS apps page (below). After that it updates itself.
When a device looks for a new version
Each device, in every mode, asks the cloud:
- when the app opens;
- every 6 hours after that;
- when it is back online after more than an hour without the cloud.
It offers the highest version on the POS apps page, the same file the page would give you.
The ! on the screen
When a newer version is out, a small round amber ! appears in a corner that never covers work:
| Device | Where the ! is |
|---|---|
| Main, Sub and Waiter POS | at the right end of the status bar, at the foot of the table plan and the order screen; and in the bottom right corner of the sign-in screen |
| Kitchen display | at the right end of its top bar, beside Settings |
| Order board | only in its staff sheet, beside the title, never on the guests' view |
| Kiosk | only in its staff sheet, after the exit code, never on the guests' view |
| Customer display | never: the POS it belongs to shows it |
Tap the ! to see the offer.
- The versions: the new one, and the one this device has.
- What's new: opens that version's release notes (a PDF, with pictures) in the device's browser. Not shown where there is no note.
- Update the Main POS first: on a Sub, Waiter, kitchen display, board or kiosk linked to its Main on your own network, when the Main is on an older version. Advice only: you may still go on.
- Not yet sent: work this POS has not sent to the cloud yet. It is kept on the device through the update and sent after it. Nothing to wait for.
- Later: hides the ! for 24 hours. Then it comes back, until the device is updated. Check for update always shows the offer.
- Download and install: downloads the new version, checks it, and installs it.
Download and install
- Tap the !, then Download and install.
- The window counts the download, Downloading… 45%, with Cancel to stop it.
- Checking the download…: the file is checked against the cloud's own check figure before anything runs.
- Installing. FooodPos closes now and opens again by itself. Wait for it to open again, then sign in as usual.
The installer runs by itself with a progress bar and no questions, then opens FooodPos again. It updates the app in its own place, and keeps its data. A Windows POS updated this way is not expected to show Windows protected your PC.
The new version is handed to Android's own installer, which asks to confirm. The first time, Android asks to allow FooodPos to install apps: the window says Allow FooodPos to install apps when Android asks, then press Download and install again. Allow it, come back, and press Download and install again.
Check for update
Every device has a Check for update page, which always shows the offer, even after Later.
- Main, Sub and Waiter POS: Settings (⚙), Hardware, then Check for update in the list. Its row carries the ! while an offer stands.
- Kitchen display: in its Settings.
- Order board and Kiosk: in the staff sheet (the kiosk's Settings opens the same Hardware window).
Check for update
- This version: the version this device runs.
- Last checked: when it last asked the cloud. Not checked yet before the first time.
- The result: Version 0.2.55 is ready (you have 0.2.54), or You have the newest version, or, in red, Could not check: no connection to the cloud.
- Check now: asks the cloud at once. It says Checking… while it asks.
- Download and install: shown when a new version is ready. Opens the offer above.
The order: Main POS first
Update the Main POS first, then every other POS, kitchen display, order board and kiosk of the outlet. Keep every device of an outlet on the same version. A Sub or Waiter that works through its Main is reminded with Update the Main POS first.
Update by hand, from POS apps
For a device before 0.2.53, or whenever you prefer:
- In the back office, open the menu under your name, then POS apps (download).
- Download the installer for the device: Windows PC or Android tablet or phone. For a tablet, scan the QR or type the short link fooodpos.com/d/ on it.
- Install it over the version you have. Your data and settings are kept.
See Download and install the POS app.
What changed in a version
Each version has its release notes, a PDF with pictures: What's new in the offer, or Release notes (0.2.55) on the POS apps page, with 🕘 for every older one.
