What your new restaurant starts with
Everything a new trial restaurant is given, whichever way it starts. Outlet HQ and its POS T01, your back office and POS logins, taxes and the service charge, order types, payment methods, reasons, the Auto menu, the Kitchen and Bar printers KP1 and BP1, receipts that print by themselves, and the sample menu and tables.
A new restaurant is not empty. The trial sign-up sets up what every restaurant needs, so a bill can be rung as soon as a POS is paired. This page lists all of it, and where to change each part.
What you get depends on one answer you gave on the trial form: Start with sample data or Start blank. Most of it is the same on both roads.
On both roads
The outlet and its first POS
Outlets
| POS | Mode · App | Linked to · Setup | Status | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| T012 | Main terminal · Not set | Pay: Default · Setting: Default | Not paired [3] | Edit ⋯ |
- Outlets: under Masters, Outlet. Your restaurant has one outlet, with the code HQ, named after your restaurant.
- T01: the outlet's first POS, a Main terminal, starting on the order type Dine In. Nobody has chosen yet whether it runs on Windows or Android, so it says Not set.
- Not paired: no device holds it yet. No pairing code is made in advance: you get one when the device is in front of you. See Pair a POS terminal.
- POS terminals: 1 of 2 used: a trial may have 1 outlet and 2 POS terminals, the Main and one more. See Your plan and its limits.
The outlet works in Malaysian ringgit, and its business day ends at 04:00, so a late night is counted on the day it started. Its receipt footer says Thank you. Please come again!. Change any of it in Outlets, Edit HQ. See Outlets.
Your two logins, one password
You are made twice, with the same password, the one in your welcome email:
| Login | Where | You type |
|---|---|---|
| The back office | fooodpos.com, as the Administrator | your email address and the password |
| The POS | every POS of your restaurant, with every POS right | the staff code owner and the same password |
Your POS login has no PIN yet. Add one in General Setup, User, POS users, on its PIN tab, if you want to sign in with a PIN. See POS users: PINs.
The restaurant also starts with access groups for your staff: Administrator and Outlet Manager for the back office, and Administrator, Outlet Manager and Cashier for the POS.
Taxes and the service charge
| Code | Name | What it is |
|---|---|---|
| SST6 | Sales & Service Tax 6% | the SST, 6% |
| SVCTAX | Service Tax on Charge | the 6% service tax charged on the service charge |
| SVC | Service charge | the 10% service charge |
- The outlet charges the 10% service charge, with the 6% service tax on it.
- SST is not charged yet. The outlet's own Tax on this outlet has nothing ticked, so dishes that follow the outlet carry no tax until you tick your taxes on the outlet's Money tab, or tick the outlet on SST6's Apply to tab.
See Taxes & Charges and Outlets: Money.
Order types
| Order type | Needs a table | Service charge |
|---|---|---|
| Dine In | yes | yes |
| Take Away | no | no |
| Counter | no | no |
| QR Order | yes | yes |
See Order Types.
Payment methods
Cash, Visa, Mastercard, DuitNow QR and Touch 'n Go eWallet, each with its own logo, all in the default payment method group. Cash opens the drawer and gives change; the other four ask for a reference number. See Payment Methods.
Void and discount reasons
- For a void: Wrong order keyed, Customer cancelled and Quality issue (this one needs a manager).
- For a discount: Staff discount 20% (needs a manager), Member discount 10% and Manager discretion (needs a manager).
The menu
One menu, Main Menu, the default. It is an Auto menu: it shows every switched-on category and dish by itself, on the POS, on QR ordering and on the waiter's tablet. Add a dish under Items and it is on the menu. See Menu Designer: Designed or Auto.
Units of measure
PCS Piece, PLATE Plate, GLASS Glass and BTL Bottle. See Units of Measure.
The kitchen and the bar
Two kitchen stations, each with its own printer:
| Kitchen station | Code | Printer code | Printer name |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kitchen | KITCHEN | KP1 | Kitchen |
| Bar | BAR | BP1 | Bar |
Both printers are network printers on 80 mm paper, ready to go, with no address yet. The address is typed on a POS: Settings, Hardware, Printer, open KP1 or BP1, type the printer's IP address, save. Until then, the POS's printer list says Network, no address yet, and an order sent to that station prints nowhere. The first time in each sign-in, the POS says so: KP1 · Kitchen is not set up yet, so nothing prints there. Set it up in Hardware, Printer.
See Kitchen Stations and Kitchen printers.
The receipt prints by itself
The POS terminal setting starts with Print receipt set to Direct: when a bill is paid, the receipt goes straight to the POS's receipt printer, with no preview. The receipt printer is chosen on each POS: Settings, Hardware, Printer. Until one is chosen, the POS says after a payment: No receipt printer is set for this POS. Set one under Printer. See POS Terminal Settings: Printing tab.
QR ordering, switched off
The outlet has a QR ordering profile, and every table its own QR code, but QR ordering is off until you switch it on. See QR Ordering.
The guide to your first POS
The first time you sign in to the back office, while no POS is paired, the window How to start your POS opens by itself: download, install, get a pairing code, pair, sign in. See How to start your POS.
With sample data
On top of the above, a small menu and a floor of tables to practise on.
Four categories, each sending its dishes to a station:
| Category | Goes to |
|---|---|
| Rice & Noodles | Kitchen |
| Main Course | Kitchen |
| Beverages | Bar |
| Dessert | Kitchen |
A dish you add to Beverages goes to the bar too: dishes follow their category's station.
Fifteen items:
| Code | Item | Price (RM) | Category | Asks |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| F001 | Nasi Lemak Ayam | 12.90 | Rice & Noodles | Spice Level |
| F002 | Char Kuey Teow | 13.90 | Rice & Noodles | Spice Level |

| F012 | Kangkung Belacan | 8.90 | Main Course | Spice Level |

| D010 | Mineral Water | 2.00 | Beverages | no kitchen ticket |
| S001 | Cendol | 6.90 | Dessert | |
| OPEN | Open Item | asked at the POS | Main Course | no kitchen ticket |
Two modifier groups, each with one answer and a default: Spice Level (Mild, Medium, Extra Spicy, No Chilli; Mild first) and Ice (Normal Ice, Less Ice, No Ice; Normal Ice first).
One floor, Main Floor, with eight tables, T01 to T08, four seats each.
No dish tracks stock and every cost is zero. Delete the sample dishes and tables whenever you like, and add your own. See Items and Table Plan.
Started blank
Only the part On both roads, and nothing else:
- No category, no item, no modifier group. The menu is empty until you add dishes on Items.
- No floor and no table. Draw them on Table Plan with + Floor. Dine In needs a table, so until there is one, ring bills with Quick sale on the POS: they open as Take Away.
- The Kitchen and Bar stations are there, with nothing sent to them. Give each new category its Default kitchen station on Categories, or give a dish its own. A dish with no station prints no kitchen ticket.
