How to start your POS (the guide in the back office)
The five-step guide the back office opens at your first sign-in. Download the POS app, install it, get a pairing code, pair the POS and sign in. When it opens by itself, how to open it again, folding it while you work, and the Paired! message.
On this page
How to start your POS is a small guide inside the back office. It takes you from nothing to a working POS in five steps, each with a drawn picture of the screen it is about. A new restaurant sees it the first time it signs in.
You can follow it on its own, or with this page beside it. Each step ends on the real page it talks about, and the guide waits for you, folded at the foot of the screen.
When it opens
- By itself, when you sign in to the back office while no POS of your restaurant is paired, at any outlet you can switch to. It keeps opening at each sign-in until you close it once.
- From the menu under your name, at the top right: How to start your POS, under POS apps (download). Any time, whether a POS is paired or not.
- From the Dashboard, while no POS is paired: the card How to start your POS, with Show me how.
- From the POS apps page: the button How to start your POS beside Then pair it with a POS.
It opens by itself only for an Administrator or a Manager, the people who may pair a POS. Anybody else finds it in the menu under their name.
Dashboard
How to start your POS
- Dashboard: the first page after every sign-in.
- The card: shown while no POS is paired. It goes away by itself as soon as one is.
- Show me how: opens the guide on its first step.
The guide, part by part
- Step 1 of 5: where you are. The step's title is under it.
- The lines: what to do on this step, in short sentences.
- Download now: on step 1 only, one button for each app, so you can download without leaving the guide. The button counts the download (Downloading… 45%), then says Saved as FooodPos-0.2.54-Windows-Setup.exe, in your browser's downloads.
- Open downloads, Open POS terminals, Open Items: goes to the real page for this step and folds the guide (see Fold it while you work).
- The picture: a drawing of the screen the step is about, with what to press ringed in blue.
- The step dots: one for each step, the one you are on drawn long. Click a dot to jump to that step.
- Close: shuts the guide. Back, beside it from step 2, goes to the step before.
- Next: the next step. On step 5 it says Done, and shuts the guide.
- ✕: shuts the guide, as Close and the Esc key do.
The five steps
1. Download the POS app
The POS app is on POS apps, in the menu under your name. Download the Windows installer on the PC that will be the POS. For an Android tablet, download the APK on the tablet itself: scan the QR on POS apps with the tablet, or type the short link under it, fooodpos.com/d/ and eight characters, into the tablet's browser.
Buttons: ⤓ Download now: Windows, ⤓ Download now: Android and Open downloads. See Download and install the POS app.
2. Install it and open it
- Windows: open the installer. If Windows says Windows protected your PC, choose More info, then Run anyway.
- Android: open the file, allow your browser to install unknown apps when it asks, then press Install.
Button: Open downloads.
3. Get a pairing code
In the back office, open POS terminals: Outlets, Edit beside HQ, then the POS terminals tab. On T01, press ⋯, then Pair. Choose Windows or Android, then press Get pairing code. A six-character code appears. It works once and lasts 24 hours.
Button: Open POS terminals, which opens the outlet straight on its POS terminals tab. Under it: Leave this open: it says Paired! here as soon as the POS has paired. See Pair a POS terminal.
4. Pair the POS and sign in
On the POS, the first screen is Set up this POS. Type the code into Pairing code and press Pair this POS. It becomes T01, the Main POS at HQ. Then sign in with the staff code owner and the password from your welcome email. If it shows a PIN pad, press Use a password instead.
Button: Open POS terminals. See Sign in on the POS for the first time.
5. Done
Ring a practice bill on the POS, then add your own dishes under Menu, Items.
Button: Open Items, which shuts the guide and opens Items. See Ring your first bill.
Fold it while you work
Open downloads, Open POS terminals and Open Items take you to the real page. The guide folds into a small bar at the foot of the screen, above the page's own windows, so you can see it from the outlet's POS terminals tab too.
- The title: once a POS has paired, it says ✅ Paired! T01 is connected.
- The step it was on: click the words to open the guide there again.
- Show: opens the guide on the same step.
- ✕: shuts the guide.
Paired!
While the guide is open or folded on step 3 or 4, it looks at your POS terminals every 10 seconds. As soon as the POS pairs at the counter, the guide moves on to step 4 and says, in green:
✅ Paired! T01 is connected to HQ. Sign in on the POS to start.
The Dashboard's card goes away at the same moment.
Closing it for good
Closing the guide (✕, Close, the Esc key or Done) is remembered for you, in this browser. After that it no longer opens by itself; it is still in the menu under your name. In another browser, or after the browser's data is cleared, it opens by itself again while nothing is paired.
