Turn the customer display on at the POS
Switch the second screen on in the back office, then check it on the POS under Hardware, Customer display. The screen found, what the back office set, the pictures on the POS, Show it on, Show test, and Off on this PC, on Windows and Android.
On this page
The customer display is switched on in the back office, for each POS. The POS then shows it on its second screen by itself. On the POS, Hardware, Customer display tells you what the POS found and lets you check the screen with Show test.
Before you start
- The POS is a Main terminal or a Sub terminal. A waiter tablet, a kitchen display, a kiosk and an order board have no customer display.
- A second screen is plugged in, or the device has one built in:
- Windows: a second monitor on HDMI, DisplayPort or USB-C, set to Extend (not duplicate).
- Android: a dual-screen POS with a customer screen, or a monitor on HDMI or USB-C. A small one- or two-line customer display is not this: see The pole display.
- You may change the outlet in the back office, for the first step.
Part 1: switch it on in the back office
- In the back office, open Outlets, Edit on the outlet, the POS terminals tab, then Edit on the POS.
- Open its Customer display tab.
- Tick Show a customer display on this POS's second screen.
- Choose the look (Full screen, Split or Background), your logo, welcome words, picture and adverts.
- Click Save. It says T01 will show it within a minute.
Every part of that tab is in POS terminals: Customer display tab. The POS takes the change the next time it hears from the back office, and fetches the pictures and videos then.
Part 2: check it on the POS
- On the POS's Tables screen, press ⚙️ (Settings) at the top right.
- Press Hardware.
- In the list on the left, press Customer display.
- Read what the POS found: the second screen, and what the back office set.
- Press Show test. A sample bill shows on the second screen for a few seconds.
Customer display
Second screen: Screen 2 · 1920 × 1080.
- Customer display: its page in the Hardware list, after Sound.
- Customer display: what the back office set, as the POS last heard it.
- On in the back office: and the look: full screen, the order only, split, the adverts on the left of the order (or on the right), or background, the order over the restaurant's picture. Or Off in the back office. Switch it on in the POS terminal dialog, Customer display tab.
- The files: how many of the pictures and videos the back office chose are already on this POS, such as 3 of 3 pictures and videos are on this POS. Shown when there are some.
- Second screen: the screen the POS found, by its number and size. With none: No second screen found. and If the second screen shows the same picture as this one, press Win+P and choose Extend.
- Showing now on … when the customer display is up on that screen, or Not showing now.
- Show it on: shown when there is more than one screen beside the till's own. The largest screen that is not this one (the first choice), or one screen by its number. It is saved at once on this PC: Saved. The customer display shows on that screen when it is plugged in.
- Show test: a bill of up to three of your own dishes on the second screen for about 8 seconds, then its thank-you with the change for about 5, whatever the back office says. Dimmed with no second screen, or while a test runs.
- Off on this PC: Keeps the customer display off on this PC whatever the back office says: for a second screen used for something else. Press the switch: On keeps it off here, Off lets it show.
- The note: what the guest never sees, and that the screens stay awake while the display is up.
- Close: shuts the Hardware window. (Drawn here as ✕.)
Keep it off on one PC
A PC whose second screen is used for something else (a kitchen screen, a CCTV monitor) can keep the customer display off while the back office has it on for that POS:
- Open Hardware, Customer display.
- Press the switch beside Off on this PC. It now says On, and the POS says Saved. The customer display stays off on this PC.
- To let it show again, press the switch again: Saved. The customer display shows on this PC while the back office has it on.
Both this switch and Show it on are kept on this PC alone, saved the moment you press them, and need no internet.
Customer display
On in the back office: full screen, the order only.
- Customer display: the screen this POS found.
- Second screen: its name and size, and The customer display is on the second screen now. when it is up. With none: No second screen found. and Plug a screen into this POS (HDMI or USB-C), or use a POS with a customer screen built in.
- On in the back office: and the look, or Off in the back office.
- The files: how many of the chosen pictures and videos are on this POS, and Set it up in the back office, in the POS terminal dialog, Customer display tab. A change reaches this POS with its next sync.
- Show test: a sample bill, Customer display test, with a Test dish and two Test drink, a service charge and its total, on the second screen for 10 seconds, whatever the back office says. It says A test is on the second screen for a few seconds., or No second screen to show the test on.
- The foot: The FooodPos logo (top left) and “Powered by FooodPos” (bottom) are always shown. The back office can put your own logo in the top bar.
- Close: back to the till.
On Android, the POS chooses the screen itself: the largest second screen it is offered, never its own. There is no Show it on and no Off on this PC. Customer display is in the Hardware list only on a Main or Sub POS.
Show test
Show test puts a bill on the second screen even while the back office still has the display off, so whoever installs the screen can see it works before anything else is set:
- Windows: up to three of your restaurant's dishes, one of each, as a bill, then its thank-you with the change. With no dish on the POS yet, the Welcome screen.
- Android: the sample bill Customer display test for 10 seconds.
It never touches a real bill. On Windows the POS says A test is on the second screen for a few seconds., or No second screen to show the test on.
After it is on
- The display opens on the second screen by itself whenever the POS is open, and follows the bill on the order and payment screens. What the guest sees: The customer display: what the guest sees.
- The screens are kept awake while it is up.
- The guest's screen never takes the keyboard: a barcode scan always goes to the POS.
