Boss app: Today

The Boss app's first tab, Today (or Summary over several days). Net sales, bills, guests and the average bill, the day in figures from gross sales to what was collected, voids and refunds, the open bills now, and last week's same day, each one the back office report's own figure.

Today is the first tab of the Boss app and the one it opens on. It shows the day's sales in one screen: the net sales in large, the bills, the guests and the average bill, then every figure from gross sales down to what was collected.

Choose other days in the top bar and the tab is called Summary: the same figures, added up over those days. See Boss app: dates, outlets and the menu.

Nothing here is worked out on the phone. Every figure is the back office Sales report's own, for the same outlets and the same business days, so the two always agree.

Before you start

  • Your access group allows Reports, Sales Reports, View. Without it the tab says Your sign-in may not see the sales summary.
  • Open bills now needs Live service, Day-end check (dashboard), View (or POS, Business Day End, View). The owner has both.

The top of the tab, part by part

Today: the net sales, three tiles, and the day in figures.
  1. Net sales: the heading. With outlets in more than one currency it names the currency, such as Net sales · RM, and there is one such card per currency. Over several days it names them too, such as Net sales · 16–23 Oct.
  2. The big figure: the net sales. The line under it says what that is: After discounts, before tax and service charge, and over several days how many, such as · 8 days.
  3. Bills: the paid bills, and each refund as one more document, as the Sales report counts them.
  4. Guests: the guests entered on those bills.
  5. Avg per bill: what was collected, divided by the bills. — when there is no bill.
  6. The day in figures: from gross sales to what was collected (In figures over several days). Shown once there is a bill. Each line is below.

The day in figures, line by line

Gross salesThe dishes at their prices, before any discount.
DiscountsEvery discount, taken off. Under it, the split: manual (given by the cashier), promotions and vouchers, each shown only when it is not zero.
Net salesGross sales less the discounts: the big figure at the top.
Service chargeThe service charge on those bills.
The second chargeYour own charge, under its own name (such as Packaging), shown only when it is not zero.
TaxAll the tax, inside the prices or added on top.
RoundingThe rounding of the totals, up or down.
CollectedWhat the bills came to, tax and charges included. Net sales, the service charge, your own charge, the tax and the rounding together make it.

Further down the tab

Voids and refunds, the open bills now, and the same day last week.
  1. Voids and refunds: shown only when there was at least one. Voided bills: their total, and how many. Refunds: the money given back, and how many refunds.
  2. Open bills now: the bills not paid yet at this moment, with how many at the right. On the floor: What the open bills come to so far. Still to pay: what is left after any part payment. With none, it says No bill is open. Shown only while the days include today.
  3. The days before: what the day is held against. For one day, the same weekday a week before, such as Last Friday; on today it adds , the whole day, because today is not over yet. Over several days, the same number of days just before, such as The 8 days before · 8–15 Oct. It shows the net sales, the bills and what was collected.

When the figures change

  • While the days include today, the tab reads its figures again every minute, as long as the app is on screen.
  • It also reads them again each time the app comes back on screen, and when you press Refresh (⟳).
  • Days that ended yesterday or before do not change, so they are read once.
  • The figures this phone had last are shown at once, with Updated 12:41 · checking for newer… over them, until the fresh ones arrive.

Look at other days

  1. Press the dates in the top bar.
  2. Press a quick pick, such as Last 7 days, or choose From and To and press Apply.
  3. The first tab is now called Summary, and its figures are those days added up.
  4. Press ‹ to see the 7 days before, › to come forward again.
