Install the Boss app and sign in
Your sales on your phone at fooodpos.com/boss. Add it to the home screen of any phone, or install the Android app, then sign in with your back office email and password and choose the subscription and the outlet.
On this page
The Boss app shows your restaurant's sales on your phone: today's figures, sales by hour, the best sellers, staff sales, payments, every bill, and the stock, kept items and Pay later balances. It lives at fooodpos.com/boss.
It only reads. Nothing can be changed from it: no bill, no price, no setting. Every figure is one a back office report already gives, for the same outlets and the same business day, so the phone and the back office always agree.
You can use it in two ways:
- On any phone, iPhone or Android: open the page in the phone's browser and add it to the home screen. It then opens like an app, with no browser bars.
- As an Android app, when one is published: install FooodPos Boss from a file.
Both show the same pages and use the same sign-in.
Before you start
- You have a back office sign-in: an email and a password. The Boss app uses the same one. There is no separate Boss account.
- What you see depends on your back office access group. The owner (Administrator) sees everything. Each tab needs the same right as the back office report it reads; see Good to know.
- The phone is on the internet. Every figure is read fresh. The figures you saw last are shown at once while the new ones load.
Where to find it
The address is the same everywhere: fooodpos.com/boss. The back office also points to it in three places:
- Dashboard: the Boss app button at the top, and Install the Android app beside it when an Android app is published. See Dashboard.
- Today at a glance: the same Boss app button. See Today at a glance.
- POS apps: the box Boss app (your sales on your phone), with the Android file and a QR code to scan. Open it from the menu under your name: POS apps (download).
POS apps
Install the POS app on each computer, tablet or phone that will take orders, then pair it with a POS.
1Boss app (your sales on your phone)
- POS apps: the page of apps to download. Open it from the menu under your name, POS apps (download).
- Boss app (your sales on your phone): the Boss app's box, under the POS apps.
- The file: the Android app's file name, its size and its date. When no Android app is published, the box says The Android app is not published yet. The page below works on any phone.
- Download the Android app: downloads the file to the computer or phone you are on.
- The two ways: how to install on Android, and how to use it on an iPhone or without installing.
- The QR code: the download link as a QR code. Scan it with the phone's camera and the phone downloads the file itself. Nobody needs to be signed in to download it.
Part 1: put it on your phone
A. On any phone: add the page to the home screen
- On the phone, open the browser and go to fooodpos.com/boss.
- Sign in (Part 2 below).
- Add the page to the home screen:
- On an iPhone, in Safari: press the Share button, then Add to Home Screen. The icon is called Boss.
- On an Android phone, in Chrome: open the browser's menu (⋮), then Add to Home screen (or Install app).
- Open it from the new icon. It opens straight on the Boss app, full screen, with no address bar.
B. On an Android phone: install the app
- Get the file in one of these ways:
- In the back office, on POS apps, scan the QR code in the Boss app box with the phone.
- Or, on the phone, open fooodpos.com/boss and press Install the Android app under the sign-in box.
- Or press Install the Android app beside Boss app on the Dashboard.
- Open the downloaded file, FooodPosBoss-1.0.1.apk or newer.
- If Android asks, allow installing apps from this source (your browser or file manager), then go back and press Install.
- Open FooodPos Boss from the phone's apps. It shows a short splash, then the sign-in screen.
The Android app is the same pages in a window of their own. What it adds:
- Pull down to reload: drag the page down from the top to read everything again.
- No connection: with no internet it shows No connection. Check the internet and try again. and a Retry button, instead of an error page. Coming back to the app tries again by itself.
- Back goes back through the pages you opened (a bill back to the list). At the first page, Back puts the app in the background; it is still there when you come back.
- A link to another site opens in the phone's browser.
- Inside the app, the menu has no Open the back office and no Install the Android app.
Part 2: sign in
- The heading: the FooodPos wordmark, Boss, and Your sales, on your phone.
- Email: your back office email.
- Password: your back office password. One password serves every subscription your email signs in to.
- Sign in: says Signing in… while it works.
- Forgot your password?: opens the back office's page that mails you a link to choose a new password. See Forgot your password.
- The same sign-in as the FooodPos back office.: if you are already signed in to the back office in this browser, you never see this screen. Signing in here signs you in to the back office in this browser too.
- Install the Android app: downloads the Android app, with its version and size. Shown only when an Android app is published, and never inside the app itself.
- Type your Email and Password.
- Press Sign in.
- If your email signs in to more than one subscription, choose one (below).
- If you may see more than one outlet and none is your default, choose one (below).
- The app opens on Today. See Boss app: Today.
Choose a subscription
- Choose a subscription: shown when the email and password open more than one restaurant.
- A subscription: its name and its code. Press it to open that restaurant. You can switch later from the menu. See Switch subscription.
- Not you? Sign in again: back to the empty sign-in box.
Choose an outlet
- Choose an outlet: shown when your account may see several outlets and none is set as yours.
- An outlet: its name and its code. This only starts the sign-in. Inside the app you can show All outlets together, or any you tick. See Boss app: dates, outlets and the menu.
- Sign in as somebody else: signs out and shows the sign-in box again.
What you see after signing in
- The app opens on Today every time, with the outlets it was left on.
- The top bar names the restaurant. Press it for the menu: the subscription, Switch subscription…, Open the back office and Sign out.
- The look follows the phone: light by day, dark when the phone is set to dark.
- You stay signed in on this phone until you sign out, or until the sign-in ends.
What if…
Good to know
- It changes nothing. The menu says it at its foot: FooodPos Boss shows figures only. It changes nothing.
- Each tab asks the same right as its back office report. A tab you may not see says Your sign-in may not see … and An administrator can allow it in the back office, under the access group this sign-in belongs to. The rights, in Back office access groups:
| Tab | The right it needs |
|---|---|
| Today, Hourly, Bills, Top outlets | Reports, Sales Reports, View |
| Today: Open bills now | Live service, Day-end check (dashboard), View, or POS, Business Day End, View |
| Top items | Reports, Item Sales, View |
| Staff | Reports, Commission, View |
| Payment | Reports, Payment Summary, View |
| Bills: an open bill's lines | Live service, Open Bills, View, or POS, Take Orders, View |
| Balances: Stock balance | Operations, Stock Balance, View |
| Balances: Custody balance | Live service, Custody (kept items), View, or POS, Kept Items (Custody), View |
| Balances: Pay later balance | Reports, Pay later Reports, View |
- A right given or taken shows without signing in again. The app reads your rights again each time it comes back on screen.
- Signing out forgets this phone's copies. The figures the app kept to show quickly are deleted, and so is the outlet choice.
