Log out and Exit POS

The two ways to leave the POS. Log out in the Settings menu, back to the sign-in screen with every bill as it was; Exit POS, on the sign-in screen and in the Settings menu, which asks Exit the POS? and says what closing costs, with Stay open and Exit POS; and what stays open after each.

There are two ways to leave the POS:

  • Log out: you sign out, and the POS goes back to its sign-in screen for the next person. The POS stays open. Use it at the end of your turn, or before somebody else takes the till.
  • Exit POS: the POS app closes. Use it at night, or before you switch the device off.

Neither one closes a bill, the shift or the day. Cash up with Shift and run the day end first when the day is done.

Where they are

  • On the table screen: tap Settings (⚙) at the right end of the top bar. Log out and Exit POS are the last two lines of the menu.
  • On the sign-in screen: Exit POS is under Sign in. See Sign in.

The sales screen has neither: go back to the tables first (← Tables). Going back asks about anything not sent to the kitchen, as it always does.

The Settings menu on the table screen (Windows), with Log out and Exit POS at its foot.
  1. ⚙ Settings: opens the menu. A tap anywhere else closes it without doing anything.
  2. Log out: Back to the sign-in screen. Bills stay as they are. It is always in the menu.
  3. Exit POS: in red, at the very foot. It is always in the menu too: the POS opens full screen, so this and the sign-in screen's Exit POS are the ways to close it.

The lines above them depend on what you may do: Last bill, Reports and Menu design show only with their rights. See The Settings menu.

Log out

  1. On the table screen, tap ⚙.
  2. Tap Log out.
  3. The POS shows Sign in at once. Nothing is asked.

What stays as it was:

  • Every bill and every table. An open table stays open, with its dishes, for the next person.
  • The shift. It stays open: whoever signs in next goes on selling in it.
  • The POS itself: its pairing, its printers, its day or night look.
  • The Staff code box on the sign-in screen holds your code, as the last person who signed in here.

The next person signs in with their own code, and the POS speaks their language. Whatever they ring is recorded under their name.

Exit POS

  1. Tap Exit POS: on the sign-in screen, or in the table screen's ⚙ menu.
  2. The window Exit the POS? opens. For a moment it says Checking what has not reached the cloud….
  3. Read its lines (below).
  4. Tap Exit POS to close the POS, or Stay open to go back.
Exit the POS? on a Main POS, asked from the table screen.
  1. What has reached the cloud: always the first line. Everything rung on this POS has reached the cloud., or how many changes have not yet. They are not lost: they are kept on this device and go up the next time the POS is opened.
  2. On a Main POS: what the other POS lose while it is closed. On a Main POS that the other POS reach on your own network, more lines may follow: 2 POS are linked to this Main POS. They lose their link while it is closed.; and, where they work through it, 2 waiter POS work through this Main POS. They cannot take orders while it is closed. or 2 sub POS work through this Main POS. They cannot sell or take payment while it is closed.
  3. The shift stays open: said when a shift is open on this POS. Asked from the sign-in screen, before anybody has signed in, the POS does not know, so it says nothing about the shift.
  4. Stay open: the easy answer. It closes the question, and the POS stays as it was.
  5. Exit POS: in red. Closes the POS. The next start opens on Sign in.

What stays after Exit POS

  • The shift stays open, with the cash in the drawer. Exit POS is not cashing up. See Close a shift.
  • Open bills stay open, on their tables, for the next start.
  • Work not yet sent stays on the device, safely, and goes to the cloud the next time the POS opens.
  • Nobody stays signed in. The next start asks somebody to sign in.
On Windows

The window closes. On a Main POS that keeps a backup copy, the POS first makes its last copy of the day. See Backup copy (Main POS).

To open the POS again, start FooodPos from the Start menu or the desktop. See Start the POS.

On Android

The app closes, and what it ran behind the screen stops with it: its link with the other POS on your own network, its queue of kitchen tickets to print, and a pole display, which is cleared.

The question looks like Android's own windows: Stay open on the left, Exit POS in red on the right. While it is still counting, it shows Checking what has not reached the cloud… with Stay open alone.
