Once a Main, Sub or Waiter POS is paired, it shows Sign in. The first person to sign in on a new restaurant's POS is you, the owner: with the staff code owner and the password from your welcome email.

After that, each person signs in with their own staff code, and a PIN or a password, at the start of their work.

Before you start

The sign-in screen, part by part

The sign-in screen is the same on Windows and Android: the FooodPos logo beside (or, held upright, above) a white card.

The sign-in card, as it opens: staff code and password.
  1. The time and the date: the device's own clock, large, at the top of the card.
  2. Which POS: the POS's code and its outlet's name. If they are not the ones you expect, this device was paired to another POS.
  3. The version line: the app's version, and Powered by FooodPos. When a newer version is out, a round amber ! shows in the screen's bottom right corner. See Update the POS apps.
  4. The language button: EN, 中文 or BM. One tap goes to the next language. The POS remembers it.
  5. The look button: Day mode or Night mode.
  6. Staff code: your code at the POS. For the owner of a new restaurant, owner. On Windows, the small keyboard key at the box's right end opens the on-screen keyboard.
  7. Password: your POS password. The first time, the one from the welcome email.
  8. Sign in: grey until a staff code and a password are typed. It says Signing in… while it checks. Enter in the Password box does the same.
  9. Use a PIN instead: switches to the PIN pad. On the PIN pad the link says Use a password instead.
  10. Exit POS: closes the app. If staff attendance is in use, Clock in / out stands beside it.

Sign in as the owner

  1. In Staff code, type owner.
  2. If the screen shows a PIN pad instead of the two boxes, press Use a password instead.
  3. In Password, type the password from your welcome email. Capitals count.
  4. Press Sign in.

The POS opens on its table plan (Tables), or on its sales screen if it is set to start there. A new restaurant's POS first asks you to open a shift: Open a shift to start selling. See Ring your first bill.

Why it works without the internet

The POS checks your password itself, on the device, so signing in does not wait for the cloud. It learns who may sign in at it from the cloud as soon as it is paired, and keeps that list up to date at every sync. A PIN works the same way.

A password the POS does not hold a check for yet needs the internet once: then the POS says Sign in once with the internet on, then your password works offline too. Your PIN works now. See What works without the internet.

Add a PIN for every day

A PIN is quicker at a busy counter: you key it on the pad, with no staff code.

  1. In the back office, open General Setup, User, POS users.
  2. Open owner (or any of your staff), and its PIN tab. Add a PIN and save.
  3. On the POS, press Use a PIN instead. The pad says Key in your PIN. No staff code needed. Key the PIN and press Sign in.

The POS learns a new PIN at its next sync. See POS users: PINs.

On Android

The card has the same parts and the same words. On a phone, or a tablet held upright, the logo is across the top and the card under it, and the PIN pad's keys fill the card's width.
