Sign in with a password
Sign in on the POS with your staff code and password. How the POS checks a password itself so it works offline, when it needs the internet once, Enter and the on-screen keyboard, Use a PIN instead, and every message.
The staff code and password form is the one the sign-in screen opens on, unless the back office says otherwise. Type your Staff code (your POS code) and your Password, and press Sign in.
The password is checked on the POS itself, as a PIN is. The POS keeps its own copy of who may sign in there by password, made by the cloud and never the password itself, so a password works with no internet.
Before you start
- You are a POS user with a POS code and a password. See POS users.
- You may sign in at this outlet.
- On a new restaurant, the owner's staff code is owner and the password is the one from the welcome email, the same as the back office's.
The form, part by part
Sign in
- Staff code: your POS code, such as C01, or owner for the owner of a new restaurant. Capitals and small letters are the same. The box starts with the code of the last person who signed in here.
- ⌨ (Windows): the POS's own keyboard, for a touch screen with no keyboard. Its Enter on the staff code moves on to the password's keyboard; its Enter on the password signs in. What is typed for the password is drawn as dots.
- Password: exactly as it was set, capitals and spaces included.
- Sign in: grey until both boxes hold something. Signing in… while it works.
- Use a PIN instead: the PIN pad. See Sign in with the PIN alone.
- In Staff code, type your POS code, or keep it if the box already shows yours.
- Press Enter. The cursor moves to Password. (On Android, the keyboard's Next key.)
- Type your password.
- Press Enter, or Sign in. (On Android, the keyboard's Done key.)
- The POS opens in your own POS language.
With no internet
A password is checked on the POS, against its copy of who may sign in by password. That copy is made by the cloud whenever a password is set (in the back office, by a reset, by Change password) and whenever somebody signs in with it while the internet is on. The POS takes it with its list of who may sign in, at every update.
So, with the internet down:
- A password the POS knows signs in as usual.
- A password the POS does not know yet (an account from before the POS could check passwords, not used since) cannot be checked. Under Sign in, in amber: Sign in once with the internet on, then your password works offline too. Your PIN works now., with Use your PIN beside it.
- A POS that has no copy at all yet (just paired, its list not in yet) says A password sign-in needs the internet, and this POS cannot reach the cloud. Sign in with a PIN instead: a PIN works with no internet., also with Use your PIN.
- The line under Sign in: not a refusal, so never red. It says what to do.
- Use your PIN: goes to the PIN pad, which works now.
A password changed in the back office reaches the POS at its next update from the cloud. When a password is wrong by the POS's copy and the internet is there, the POS asks the cloud for its list once more before it calls the password wrong, so a password changed a moment ago works.
