Bill remark
A note about the whole bill, such as "birthday, cake at 9". Add it from the row above TOTAL or the strip at the foot of the payment window, change or clear it, and where it prints, on the bill, the receipt and the kitchen tickets. On the Windows and the Android POS.
On this page
A bill remark is a note about the whole bill, in your own words: birthday, cake at 9, no chilli for the table, pay by company cheque. It is not about one dish (a dish has its own modifiers and notes).
It prints on the bill and the receipt, and the kitchen sees it on the tickets of the next Save & Fire.
Before you start
- Nothing to set up. Every bill has the row for it.
- The remark is saved on this POS first and sent to the cloud when the line allows, so it works with the internet down.
- A bill that is paid keeps the remark it was paid with.
Where it is
The remark has two places on the screen, and both open the same window:
- On the sales screen: the row just above TOTAL, on the bill.
- In the payment window: the strip along the very bottom, under the receipt and the keys.
- The bill remark row: the last row before TOTAL. With a remark, it is amber: Bill remark, the words under it (two lines at most; the window shows the whole), and a pen ✎. With none, it is a dashed row that says + Add bill remark. The whole row is the button.
- TOTAL: under the remark. A remark changes no figure.
- BILL REMARK: the strip along the foot of the window, one line of the remark (a long one is cut short here), and ✎. With none it says + Add bill remark. Tap it to add or change the remark, before you take the money.
- The receipt: shows Remark: with the words, under the dishes, as it will print.
Once the bill is paid, the Paid screen still shows the strip with the remark, but it can no longer be tapped. A bill paid with no remark shows no strip.
Add or change the remark
- Tap + Add bill remark above TOTAL (or the strip in the payment window).
- The Bill remark window opens, with the bill's name under its title.
- Type the note, with the on-screen keyboard or a real one. Up to 500 characters.
- Press Save. The window closes, and the row above TOTAL shows the remark.
- Bill remark, and under it the bill's name (Table T6, Quick sale): which bill the remark is for.
- The box: the remark. Empty, it shows For example: birthday, cake at 9 in grey. Its ends are trimmed when it is saved. A new line shows on the screen; on paper it prints as a space.
- 19 of 500 characters: how much of the 500 you have used. The box takes no more than 500.
- The help line: where the remark goes. Read it once: it says what the kitchen sees, and what it does not.
- Cancel: closes the window. Nothing changes.
- Clear: on a bill that has a remark, takes it off the bill at once. On a bill with none, it only empties the box. It is grey when there is nothing to clear.
- Save: keeps what is in the box. It is grey until you change something. While it saves it says Saving…. Saving an empty box takes the remark off, as Clear does.
Take the remark off
- Tap the remark row above TOTAL.
- Press Clear. The remark is gone from the bill, and the row says + Add bill remark again.
Where the remark prints
- On the bill and the receipt: Remark: and the words, under the last dish. It is the print format's Bill remark field. See Print Formats: the bill.
- On the kitchen ticket: NOTE: and the words, in bold, above the dishes. It is the kitchen ticket format's Bill note field. See Print Formats: kitchen ticket.
The words round it on paper are always English (Remark:, NOTE:). The remark itself prints as you typed it, whole: a long one wraps onto more lines, it is never cut.
Other things to know
- A guest's QR order note is kept in the same place: it shows here as the bill remark.
- Split bill: each of the two bills can have its own remark. See Split bill.
- Two POS on one bill: the remark saved last wins. Each POS takes the cloud's when it next reads the bill.
The row above TOTAL and the payment window's strip look the same, with a pencil at the left: Add bill remark in grey, or Bill remark in bold and the words beside it.
The window is Android's own: its title is Add bill remark on a bill with none, Edit the bill remark on one with a remark. The box is labelled Bill remark, with 19 of 500 characters under it and the help line below. The buttons are Clear and Cancel on the left and Save on the right. Clear takes the remark off at once. On a phone or a tablet held upright, the box and its help scroll above the keyboard.
