Void a dish

Take a dish off the bill with Void, on the Windows and the Android POS. A dish not sent yet comes off at once; one the kitchen has asks a reason. The Void this item window part by part, What happened?, a manager's PIN for somebody who may not void, what the kitchen is told and when, and every message.

Void takes a dish off the bill. What it asks depends on whether the kitchen already has the dish:

  • Not sent to the kitchen yet: it simply comes off. Nothing is asked.
  • Already sent: the kitchen is cooking it, so the void needs a reason, and the kitchen is told the dish is cancelled.

To take only part of a line off (2 of 5), lower its quantity instead. See Change the quantity.

Before you start

  • Void reasons are set up in the back office: Void / Discount Reasons, of the type Void. A restaurant starts with three. See Void / Discount Reasons.
  • Voiding a dish the cloud already has is a right: Void a line or bill, in your POS access group. Without it, a manager approves the void with their PIN. See POS access groups.

Void a dish

  1. Tap the dish's line on the bill. Its window opens.
  2. Press Void (red).
  3. A dish not sent yet comes off at once, and you are done.
  4. For a dish already sent, the Void this item window opens. Choose the Reason.
  5. If you like, write more under What happened?, such as Guest changed to Mee Hailam.
  6. If the window asks for a manager, the manager types their PIN.
  7. Press Void this item.

Typing 0 on the quantity pad does the same as Void.

The Void this item window, part by part

Void this item (Windows), for a dish already sent, by somebody who may not void it.
  1. Void this item: the window's name, on red.
  2. The dish's name: the line being voided. For part of a line, how many come off: 1 x Mee Goreng.
  3. Value: what comes off the bill.
  4. The manager's PIN: shown only when you may not void this dish yourself. The manager types their PIN, and their Staff code (optional) if their PIN alone is not enough. It is checked on this POS, so it works without the internet. The manager must have Void a line or bill, and is recorded as the one who voided it.
  5. Reason: the switched-on Void reasons. The first is chosen when the window opens; the chosen one has a red edge. Tap another to choose it.
  6. What happened? (optional): a note for the record. Left empty, the reason's own name is recorded.
  7. Keep it: closes the window. The dish stays on the bill.
  8. Void this item: voids the dish. It says Voiding… while it works. Grey while there is no reason to choose, or while a PIN is needed and not typed.

A member's registration fee is voided as a sent dish is: with a reason, and the right or a manager's PIN. The member stays on the bill.

What the kitchen is told

A dish the kitchen has, once voided, stays on the bill struck through in red, with DELETE, not fired. The kitchen is told at the next Save & Fire, which counts it: its station's printer prints a slip that the dish is cancelled.

If you leave the bill first (← Tables, a move, and so on), the slip prints as you leave, and the table screen says so: Deleting at KP1: Mee Goreng.

A kitchen display shows the dish struck through.

A void of a dish never sent prints nothing: the kitchen never had it. It is still written down on this POS, with the time.

On Android

The window is the same, on red, with Value, Reason, the note and Keep it and Void this item. The differences:

  • The reasons are one under another, the whole width of the window.
  • The note's box says What happened? (optional) in one line.
  • On a phone, or a tablet held upright, only the middle of the window scrolls: Keep it and Void this item stay at its foot.
