Mark a dish sold out from the POS

The kitchen has run out. Right-click the dish's tile (Windows) or hold it down (Android), answer Mark it sold out, and it comes off every POS and every QR menu at the outlet until the day ends; Put it back the same way. One choice of a dish, too. Needs the internet. On the Windows and the Android POS.

When the kitchen runs out of a dish, mark it sold out right on the POS, where the dish is. It comes off every POS and every QR menu at this outlet: the tile turns grey with SOLD OUT, a tap on it rings nothing, and guests ordering by QR no longer see it.

It is only for today. When the day ends, the dish comes back by itself. If the kitchen gets more before then, put it back yourself, the same way.

You can do the same for one choice of a dish (one flavour, one side), and the dish itself stays on sale.

Before you start

  • You need Take Orders, Edit in your POS access group: the right to ring orders. Every cashier normally has it.
  • The internet. The sold-out list is the outlet's, kept on the cloud, so every POS and the QR menu read the same one. A POS that cannot reach the cloud cannot change it. On a POS that works through its Main POS on your own network, it is the Main POS that needs the internet.

Mark a dish sold out

  1. On the sales screen, find the dish's tile.
  2. Windows: right-click the tile. Android: hold your finger on the tile.
  3. The POS asks Mark Nasi Lemak Ayam sold out?
  4. Press Mark it sold out. While the cloud is told, the button says Telling the cloud….
  5. The question closes. The bill says Nasi Lemak Ayam is off until the day ends. Every POS and the QR menu follow. The tile is grey, with SOLD OUT under its name.
The question on Windows, over the sales screen.
  1. Mark Nasi Lemak Ayam sold out?: the dish you right-clicked, by its short name when it has one. Check it is the right dish: one click on the wrong tile takes a dish off every screen in the restaurant.
  2. What it does: It comes off every POS and every QR menu at this outlet, and comes back by itself when the day ends. Only this outlet: another branch goes on selling it.
  3. Cancel: nothing changes.
  4. Mark it sold out: tells the cloud. The blue button, not a red one: nothing is deleted. On Windows, Enter presses it and Escape closes the question.

What a sold-out dish looks like

The sales screen with Nasi Lemak Ayam sold out.
  1. The sold-out tile: faded and drained of colour, with SOLD OUT in red under its name. It is not hidden: it stays in its place, so it can be put back from here.
  2. The line over the bill: what the POS just did. Press OK beside it to clear it.
  • A tap on the tile rings nothing. It says Nasi Lemak Ayam is sold out today. Clear it in the back office if it is back. (You can also put it back from this POS: see below.)
  • A scanned barcode or a typed item code of the dish is refused the same way.
  • More of a dish already on the bill is refused too: +, the quantity pad and the line's window say the same sentence. Fewer is always allowed.
  • A set meal with the dish as one of its choices shows that choice as sold out.
  • A choice that uses up the dish (a choice that deducts its stock) cannot be chosen either.
  • Every other POS at the outlet follows within a moment, at its next refresh. The QR menu stops offering it.

Put a dish back on

  1. Right-click the grey tile (Android: hold it down).
  2. The POS asks Put Nasi Lemak Ayam back on?, with It goes back on every POS and every QR menu at this outlet, within a moment.
  3. Press Put it back.
  4. The bill says Nasi Lemak Ayam is back on. Every POS and the QR menu follow. The tile has its colours again.

Mark one choice sold out

When the kitchen runs out of one choice, such as one flavour, mark the choice and not the dish.

  1. Ring a dish that has the choice, so its choices window opens (Choices for Teh Tarik). Its heading says Kitchen run out of one? Right-click it to mark it sold out for today. (Android: Kitchen run out of one? Hold it down to mark it sold out for today.)
  2. Right-click the choice (Android: hold it down). Hovering on Windows says Right-click to mark it sold out.
  3. The POS asks Mark Kurang Manis sold out?, with It can no longer be chosen on any dish, on every POS and every QR menu at this outlet. The dishes themselves stay on sale. It comes back by itself when the day ends.
  4. Press Mark it sold out. The choice is grey, with Sold out, and cannot be chosen on any dish.

Put a choice back the same way: right-click it (Android: hold it down), then Put it back. Its question says It can be chosen again on every POS and every QR menu at this outlet, within a moment.

The sold-out list in the back office

The list is the same one the back office keeps on Items: a dish marked sold out on the POS shows there too, and one marked there shows on the POS. See Items: sold out today (86).

On Android

Hold your finger on the tile until the question opens. The question is Android's own window: the title, the sentence, and the buttons Cancel and Mark it sold out at its foot (Put it back for a dish already sold out). A sold-out tile is faded, with SOLD OUT in red.

The question on Android.
  1. Mark it sold out: tells the cloud. While it does, it says Telling the cloud….

Android checks that the cloud really answers, not only that the tablet has a signal: a tablet on a router with no line out cannot mark anything.

What if…
