Close a bill with nothing to pay

When a voucher, a discount or a free dish takes a bill to RM 0.00, or the payments already cover it, there is nothing to take. Close bill stands where Take was; press it, and the bill closes, any voucher on it is used, and the receipt prints. On the Windows and the Android POS.

Sometimes a bill comes to nothing: a voucher covers it, a 100% discount is given, the dishes are free, or the payments already taken cover what is left. No payment can be taken for RM 0.00, so the payment window offers Close bill instead of Take. One press closes the bill.

Before you start

  • The bill must have at least one dish on it. An empty bill has nothing to close: Pay is grey.
  • Closing for nothing asks the same as taking a payment: this POS may take payment, a shift is open if it needs one, and you have the right to take payment or a manager approves it. See Which POS may take payment.

Close the bill

  1. On the sales screen, press Pay RM 0.00 (or Payment in the table's window).
  2. The payment window shows Amount due RM 0.00, and under it: Nothing is left to pay on this bill. Close it to finish, and any voucher on it is used.
  3. The green button where Take was says Close bill. Press it. It says Closing… for a moment.
  4. The window shows Paid, with No change to give. The receipt prints as this POS's setting says.
  5. Press Exit, or wait for it to count down. The table is free.

  1. The receipt: the bill as it will print, with what took it to nothing (here a voucher) above TOTAL 0.00.
  2. Amount due RM 0.00: nothing is left. After part payments the label says Balance due, with Paid so far beside it.
  3. Nothing is left to pay on this bill. Close it to finish, and any voucher on it is used.: on the window, under the amount due (drawn here under the window). Pay later, Deposit and Member are not offered on such a bill.
  4. Close bill: closes the bill. Nothing keyed on the keypad is taken: no money changes hands, and the cash drawer stays shut. Enter on the keyboard does not close it.

What closing does

  • The bill is closed on this POS at once, and the cloud is told behind it, with this POS's total. The table is free the moment you leave the window.
  • A voucher on the bill is used: it is redeemed as it would be by a payment, and cannot be used again.
  • The receipt is kept on this POS and prints as the POS's terminal setting says (Direct, Preview or No print). See The receipt after payment.
  • It counts as the POS's own work: it is saved first and sent after, with the internet up or down.
Closed: no change, and Paid RM 0.00.
  1. Paid: the bill is closed, with No change to give and Paid RM 0.00 under it (or what the part payments came to). With the internet down it says Saved on this POS in amber instead (see What if…).
  2. Print a copy: the receipt printed by itself, so this prints a copy marked REPRINT. When it has not printed, the button says Print receipt.
  3. Exit (10): back to the tables.

On Android

On Android

The same, in the Android window:

  • Under Due now RM 0.00 the line says Nothing left to pay on this bill.
  • The foot of the keypad is Close bill in green. While it closes it shows a spinner.
  • The Paid screen says Nothing was due on this bill. when nothing at all was paid on it, or Total paid RM 20.00 when part payments came first.
  • With the internet down, the line says Closed on this device. The cloud closes it when the connection returns.
