Who served, and sold by
Name who serves a bill from the top line of the sales screen, name who sold one dish with Sold by in its window, the question the POS can ask as each dish is added, No one and Same as the bill, and what it means for commission. On the Windows and the Android POS.
On this page
A bill can name the staff member who serves it: who served. Every dish on it then counts for that person's commission. One dish can name somebody else, for example the wine sold by another waiter: that dish is sold by them.
Nobody named is fine. A restaurant that pays no commission never needs this.
Before you start
- The staff are set up in the back office, in Staff Master, with a code and a staff category. The POS shows the staff of its own outlet. See Staff Master.
- The list is the one this POS last pulled, so it works with the internet down. A person added a moment ago appears after the next refresh of the menu.
- The choice can be changed until money is taken on the bill.
- The POS never shows a commission figure. The cloud works it out from the rates in the back office. See Commission.
On the sales screen
Who served is a button on the top line, beside the order type. It shows only when this POS has staff (or the bill already names somebody).
- Served by Aisyah ▾: who serves the bill. With nobody named it says Who served? ▾. Tap it to name or change them.
- sold by Kumar: a dish with a seller of its own, in blue under the dish. A dish with none shows nothing: it is the bill's server's.
Name who serves the bill
- Tap Who served? ▾ (or Served by Aisyah ▾) on the top line.
- A window opens with the bill's name and Who is serving this bill? Every item without a seller of its own counts toward their commission. It can be changed until money is taken on the bill.
- Tap the person. The window closes and the top line says Served by Aisyah ▾.
- The bill's name: Table T6, or Quick sale.
- The question: what the choice means.
- A person: their name, then their staff code and category. The one named now is outlined in blue, with · now.
- No one: takes the name off the bill. It says No one · now while nobody is named.
- Cancel: closes the window and changes nothing.
Changing who serves the bill moves every dish that has no seller of its own to the new person. A dish with its own seller keeps them.
Name who sold one dish
- On the bill, tap the dish. Its window opens beside the bill.
- Press Sold by.
- A window opens with the dish's name and Who sold this item? It counts toward their commission instead of the bill's server's. It can be changed until money is taken on the bill.
- Tap the person. Under the dish on the bill: sold by Kumar.
To hand the dish back to the bill's server, open it again, press Sold by and press Same as the bill (Aisyah). With nobody serving the bill, it says Same as the bill (no one yet).
- The dish's seller now: outlined in blue, with · now.
- Same as the bill (Aisyah): the dish goes back to counting for whoever serves the bill.
A dish shown on the bill as one line but rung in several goes (2 × Teh Tarik, rung once and once more) is changed whole.
Asked as each dish is added
The owner can make the POS ask who served as each dish goes on the bill. It is the POS terminal setting Ask who served when an item is added: Off, Every item, or only the items ticked Required Staff (can skip, or must choose). See POS Terminal Settings: Selling tab.
When it asks:
- Tap the dish (and answer its choices, if it has any).
- A window asks Who served Nasi Lemak Ayam? (with the choices: Who served Nasi Lemak Ayam · Extra egg?).
- The bill's server is chosen already, with a big blue button: Aisyah — serves this bill. One tap confirms them.
- Or tap another person.
- The line under the question: what skipping does. Where somebody must be chosen it says Pick who served it: it counts toward their commission. Somebody must be picked for this item — Cancel does not add it.
- Aisyah — serves this bill: the bill's server, in one tap. It is there only when the bill has a server.
- Skip — add without staff: adds the dish with no seller of its own; it counts for whoever serves the bill. Where somebody must be chosen, the button is Cancel — do not add, and the dish is not added.
The person picked here is the dish's own seller. It stays theirs even if the bill's server is changed later. Where somebody must be chosen, the dish's Sold by later offers only people, with no Same as the bill.
A set meal asks once, for the whole set.
Who served is a framed button on the top line, beside the order type: Served by in small words, then the name, or Nobody yet.
The windows are lists, one person per row, with Cancel across the foot. The way back to nobody is the first row of the list, not a button at the foot:
- For the bill: the title Who served this bill?, the line Table T6: every dish on it goes to them, unless a dish names somebody of its own., and the first row No one, with The bill counts towards nobody's commission under it.
- For one dish: the title Who sold Teh Tarik?, the line Only this dish. The rest of the bill stays with whoever serves it., and the first row Same as the bill, with the bill's server's name under it (or Nobody serves this bill yet).
- The person named now says chosen now under their name.
- No one: the first row. Takes the name off the bill.
- The person named now: outlined in blue, with chosen now.
Where the name shows
- On the sales screen: the top line, and sold by Kumar under a dish with its own seller.
- On the receipt and the bill: Served by with the name, where the print format shows it. See Print Formats: the bill.
- In the back office: the commission report counts each paid dish for the person it counts for: its own seller, or else the bill's server. See Commission.
