Choices and modifiers

The window a dish opens to ask its choices (size, ice, spice, add-ons) before it goes on the bill, on the Windows and the Android POS. Each group's rule and count, the tiles, defaults, choosing one twice, sold-out options, Still to choose, Add with the price, and putting a choice right later.

Some dishes ask questions before they go on the bill: Size, Ice, Spice level, Add-ons. Each question is a modifier group, and its answers are tiles. The window shows the dish's price as you choose, and Add puts the dish on the bill with its choices.

The kitchen ticket and the bill print the choices under the dish.

Before you start

  • The questions are made in the back office: Modifiers, then ticked on each dish. See Modifiers.
  • A dish asks a group when the group has Prompt as soon as the item is tapped ticked, or a Minimum above 0. A group with neither is not asked when the dish is rung.

When the window opens

The window opens by itself when you tap a dish that asks something, type its code or scan it. It opens after an open price and a weight, and before who served. A set meal asks its choices in its own window instead: see Set meals. See Add dishes to the bill.

It opens again from the line's window, with Modifier, to put a wrong choice right. See Put a choice right later.

The window, part by part

A dish's choices (Windows): a group still to answer, a default ticked, an option sold out, and one chosen twice.
  1. The dish's name: and its second-language name under it, when it has one.
  2. RM 5.80: the dish's price with the choices made so far. It changes with each tap.
  3. Kitchen run out of one? Right-click it to mark it sold out for today.: shown when you may mark choices sold out. See Sold-out options.
  4. A group: its name, and its rule at the right: choose 1, choose 1–2, at least 2, optional, optional · up to 3. The header stays at the top while the window scrolls. It turns red while the group is not answered as its rule asks.
  5. 2/3: how far the group has got: 2 chosen of at most 3. A group with a minimum and no maximum shows 1/2 until it is met, then 3 chosen. A choose 1 group shows no count: its tick says it all.
  6. A chosen option: a thick blue frame and a tick. Normal ice came up ticked because it is the group's default.
  7. A sold-out option: greyed and struck through, with SOLD OUT. It cannot be chosen.
  8. ×2: the same option chosen twice. Each tap on it adds one more, where the group allows the same option more than once.
  9. −: one less of that option.
  10. Still to choose: Size: the groups still to answer, in red. Too many chosen: Add-ons (up to 3) when a group has more than it may.
  11. Cancel: closes the window. Nothing goes on the bill.
  12. Add RM 5.80: puts the dish on the bill with its choices, at that price. Green, and grey until every group is answered as its rule asks.

An option's tile shows its picture, when it has one (or the picture of the item it takes off the stock). A tile that costs more says so: +RM 1.00; one that costs less, in green: −RM 0.50.

Choose the options

  1. Tap a dish that asks something. The window opens, with each group's default already ticked.
  2. In each group, tap the option the guest wants:
    • In a choose 1 group, a tap moves the tick to that option.
    • In a group of several, each tap ticks an option, and another tap unticks it.
    • Where the same option may be chosen more than once, each tap adds one (×2, ×3), and − takes one off.
  3. Check the red line at the foot: when nothing is left to choose, it is gone.
  4. Press Add RM 5.80. The dish goes on the bill, with its choices under its name: + Regular, Normal ice, 2x Pearl.

A required choose 1 group keeps its tick: a tap on the chosen option does nothing. An optional one lets it go.

What the window refuses, and why

The amber line above the buttons says why a tap did nothing:

It saysWhy
Add-ons: you can choose up to 3The group already has its most. Untick one first.
At most 20 of one optionOne option can be chosen at most 20 times.
No ice is sold out todayThe option is sold out. Choose another.

Sold-out options

An option the kitchen has run out of today is greyed with SOLD OUT, and so is an option that takes off the stock an item that is sold out here. Neither can be chosen, and neither is ever ticked as a default. If an option runs out while the window is open, its tick goes.

To mark an option sold out for today, or put it back, while the window is open:

  • On Windows, right-click the option.
  • On Android, hold it down.

The POS asks to confirm, and the line above the buttons says what was done. This needs the internet and the right to change orders. See Mark a dish sold out from the POS.

Put a choice right later

  1. Tap the dish's line on the bill. Its window opens.
  2. Press Modifier. The same window opens, with the line's present choices ticked.
  3. Change the choices.
  4. Press the green button. The line's choices are replaced, and its price follows.

Only before the dish is sent to the kitchen. After that, Modifier says Already sent to the kitchen. Void this line and add it again. See A bill line's window.

On Android

The window is the same, with these differences:

  • The line under the price says Kitchen run out of one? Hold it down to mark it sold out for today.
  • Opened again from the line's Modifier, or for a dish inside a set meal, the green button says OK.
  • On a phone or a tablet held upright, the window takes almost the whole screen, and the tiles fit as many across as the width holds.
