Add dishes to the bill
Put dishes on the bill by tapping their buttons, on the Windows and the Android POS. The category tabs, turning screens with Previous screen and Next screen, what a dish may ask before it goes on, a dish tapped twice, SOLD OUT, the stock count, and a free item a promotion offers.
On this page
To put a dish on the bill, tap its button on the menu. It goes on the bill at once, at the bottom, marked not sent until you send it to the kitchen.
Some dishes ask something first: a choice, a price, a weight, or who served. This guide covers tapping dishes; a code typed or a barcode scanned goes through the same steps. See Item code, barcode and search.
Before you start
- A bill is open: a table's bill, or a quick sale. See The sales screen.
- A shift may need to be open. If this POS sells only with a shift open, the first dish asks for one. See What if….
Tap a dish
- The dish's button: one tap, one dish.
- The new line: at the bottom of the bill, with not sent in amber. The bill scrolls to it by itself.
- Save & Fire 1: counts the lines not sent yet. Press it to send them to the kitchen. See Save & Fire.
- Tap a category tab to show its dishes, if your menu has more than one. See The sales screen.
- Tap the dish's button. It goes on the bill.
- Tap it again for another one. See The same dish twice.
- Add the other dishes the same way.
- Press Save & Fire to send the new dishes to the kitchen.
Turn the screens of a category
A category with more dishes than fit on the screen shows a pager under the dishes: ‹ 1/2 ›.
- ‹ (Previous screen): the screen before.
- › (Next screen): the screen after.
- 1/2: which screen you are on, of how many.
Another tab always starts on its first screen.
On a phone or a tablet held upright, there is no pager: the dishes of a category run on in one list, and you scroll it with a finger.
When a dish asks something first
Some dishes ask before they go on the bill. The questions come in this order, each only when it applies:
| The dish is | The POS asks | Guide |
|---|---|---|
| A set meal with choices | The set's choices: the main, the drink… | Set meals |
| An open-price dish | Its price, on a number pad | Open-price dishes |
| Sold by weight, where the POS asks the weight at once | Its weight, on a number pad, with ⚖️ Read scale when the POS has a scale | Dishes sold by weight |
| A dish with choices the kitchen must know | Its choices: spice level, size, add-ons… | Choices and modifiers |
| Any dish, where the POS asks who served | Who served it, for commission | Who served, and sold by |
Cancel on any of these adds nothing. The dish goes on the bill only once every question is answered.
The same dish twice
What a second tap on the same dish does is set per POS in the back office: Merge items, on the POS terminal setting's Order screen tab.
| Merge items | A second tap on a dish already on the bill |
|---|---|
| No merge | Adds a new line every time. |
| Merge within the same order | Adds 1 to its line, while the line is not sent yet. After Save & Fire, the dish starts a new line. |
| Always merge | The same dish shows as one line, old order or new. The kitchen still gets only what is new. |
A dish merges only onto a line not sent yet, of the same dish at the same price, with the same choices, no note and no discount, sold by the same person, and only when no promotion could price the two differently. A set meal, an open-price dish and a dish sold by weight always start a line of their own.
See POS Terminal Settings: Order screen tab.
Sold out and the stock count
- A dish sold out today at this outlet is greyed with SOLD OUT. A tap adds nothing, and the bill says Nasi Goreng is sold out today. Clear it in the back office if it is back. To mark a dish sold out, or put it back, from the POS: right-click its button (Windows) or hold it down (Android). See Mark a dish sold out from the POS.
- A dish that keeps a stock count shows what is left on the shelf: 3 left. At 0 or below the count is red, and the dish can still be sold. The count is only a warning. See Which items track stock.
- Adding 1 to a line of a dish that is sold out now is refused in the same words.
A free item from a promotion
A buy X get Y promotion never puts the free dish on the bill by itself: the guest may not want it. When the bill earns it, a green chip appears under the bill's lines:
- On Windows: Add 1 Teh Tarik — free with Buy 2 get 1. Tap the chip to add the free dish. When the promotion lets the guest choose from several dishes, the chip says 1 free from Teh Tarik, Kopi O with Buy 2 get 1: tap the dish they choose on the menu.
- On Android: Add 1 free with Buy 2 get 1. Tap it to add the free dish.
The free dish shows FREE ×1 under its line. See Promotions on the bill.
