Discount the bill or a dish
Give a discount on the whole bill, or on one dish, on the Windows and the Android POS. The discount window part by part, Percent or Amount, the reason and its preset, Remove, what a reason that cannot be combined does, the question when the bill holds a voucher, who may give a discount, and every message.
On this page
A discount takes money off: off the whole bill, or off one dish. It is always given with a reason, such as Staff discount 20%, so the cash-up can explain it.
- The bill: press Discount on the bar under the menu.
- One dish: tap its line, then Disc in its window.
Both open the same window. A bill has one bill discount; each line can have one discount of its own.
Before you start
- Discount reasons are set up in the back office: Void / Discount Reasons, of the type Discount. A restaurant starts with three. See Void / Discount Reasons.
- Giving a discount is a right: Apply a discount, in your POS access group. See Who may give a discount.
The discount window, part by part
- Discount the bill: or Discount this item, from a line's Disc.
- currently RM 45.00: the bill's total now. For a dish: Mee Goreng — currently RM 23.80, the line's amount.
- Percent / Amount: a share of the price, or money off. The chosen one is blue.
- Percent off (or Amount off (RM)): the figure. A percentage is at most 100.
- Roughly off and New total: what the discount comes to, and the total after it. Final figure is set when the bill recalculates.: the bill works the exact figure out across its lines, with its taxes and promotions.
- Reason: the switched-on Discount reasons, in their back office order. The first is chosen when the window opens.
- A reason: tap it to choose it. A reason with a preset, such as Staff discount 20%, fills in Percent and 20 by itself; you can still change them.
- Cancel: closes the window. Nothing changes.
- Remove: takes the discount off. Shown only when the bill (or the line) already has one.
- Apply: gives the discount. It says Applying… while it works. Grey until the figure is right and a reason is chosen.
The figure's box opens the POS's on-screen number keys on a screen with no keyboard. A keyboard types in it as usual.
Discount the whole bill
- On the sales screen, press Discount on the bar under the menu.
- Choose the Reason. If it has a preset, the figure fills in.
- Choose Percent or Amount, and type the figure if it is not filled in.
- Check New total.
- Press Apply.
The bar's button turns green and says Discount applied. In the totals, Discount shows what came off.
Discount one dish
- Tap the dish's line on the bill. Its window opens.
- Press Disc. The window Discount this item opens, with the line's amount.
- Choose the Reason, Percent or Amount, and the figure.
- Press Apply.
The line then says less 20% (or less 2.00) in green under its amount, and Disc is green in its window.
A row that shows several lines of the dish as one (Always merge) gets the discount on all of them.
Take a discount off
Open the same window (Discount, or the line's Disc) and press Remove.
Who may give a discount
- Your POS access group must include Apply a discount. The discount window does not ask for a manager: the cloud checks the right when the discount reaches it. Ask the owner for the right, or ask somebody who has it to give the discount. See POS access groups.
- The reason does not decide it. A reason can have Manager approval ticked in the back office, but the POS does not ask for a manager because of it. See Void / Discount Reasons.
- On a POS that works through its Main POS, the Main POS checks the right. When it refuses for want of it, the POS asks for a manager's PIN: This needs a manager who may give discounts. with the box A manager approves this discount: their PIN, or their staff code and PIN. (On Windows these boxes appear in the discount window itself; on Android in a window of their own.)
A discount and the bill's promotions and vouchers
- A reason that cannot be combined. A discount given under a reason with Cannot be combined ticked is the only one on the bill: every promotion and voucher on it shows as not applied, with the reason's name.
- A voucher that is not used with a discount keyed by staff. When the bill already holds such a voucher, Apply first asks:
- Keep the voucher: the discount is not given. Nothing changes.
- Use the discount: the voucher comes off the bill first (the guest keeps it, unused), then the discount is given.
There is no other way out of this question: answer one or the other.
- A promotion a cashier applies by hand, and a price changed by hand, are not discounts keyed by staff. See Promotions on the bill.
Lines that take no discount
| The line | Disc says |
|---|---|
| A return (below 0) | A return is never discounted. |
| A member's registration fee | The registration fee is set in Member settings and cannot be changed here. |
On Android
The window has the same parts, with these differences:
- Percent and Amount are two chips side by side.
- The figure is typed with the tablet's own number keys.
- The reasons are one under another, the whole width of the window.
- On a phone held upright, Remove has a row of its own above Cancel and Apply.
- Disc on a return says A returned item takes no discount.
