Leaving a bill with dishes not sent
What the POS asks when you go back to the tables from a bill with dishes not sent to the kitchen. When it asks and when it does not, the question part by part, Discard these items, Keep them on the bill and Cancel, a bill with money on it, and every message. On the Windows and the Android POS.
On this page
Dishes rung on a bill reach the kitchen only when somebody presses Save & Fire. If you go back to the tables without it, the POS stops you and asks what to do with them, so that a table's order is never forgotten on the screen, or sent by mistake.
When it asks, and when it does not
You leave a bill with ← Tables at the top left of the sales screen. The POS also leaves it by itself after Print bill (see Print bill). Each time, it decides:
| The bill | What happens |
|---|---|
| At a table, with dishes rung on this visit and not sent | It asks (below). |
| Nothing on it (never rung, or every dish taken off again) | It is thrown away, and the table is Free again at once. No question. |
| Nothing on it, but money was taken on it | Straight back. Money is never thrown away. |
| Only dishes already sent to the kitchen | Straight back. No question. |
| Dishes kept on the bill on an earlier visit | Straight back. Somebody chose to keep them then. |
| A quick sale (a bill at no table) with dishes on it | Straight back. It is the cashier's to finish. |
A returned dish (a minus quantity) and a kept bottle handed back on the bill at 0.00 are never asked about: nothing of them goes to the kitchen.
The question, part by part
- 3 items have not been sent to the kitchen: how many bill lines are waiting. With one: 1 item has not been sent to the kitchen.
- The dishes: each one not sent, with its quantity. A weighed dish shows its weight (0.350 ×).
- The question: Discard them, or keep them on the bill to send later? On a bill with money taken on it, the words change (see A bill with money on it).
- Cancel: closes the question and leaves you on the bill, as it was. Use it when you meant to press Save & Fire.
- Keep them on the bill: back to the tables. The dishes stay on the bill, not sent, for later. The kitchen does not get them.
- Discard these items: in red, at the far end. Takes exactly these dishes off the bill and goes back to the tables. With one dish it says Discard this item. While it works it says Discarding….
Send them now
- Press Cancel.
- Press Save & Fire in the bar under the menu.
- At a table, the POS goes back to the tables by itself. See Save & Fire.
Keep them for later
- Press Keep them on the bill.
- The POS goes back to the tables. The table stays taken, with the dishes on its bill.
- To send them later, open the table and press Save & Fire.
The next time the bill is opened and left again, the POS does not ask about these dishes a second time: they were kept on purpose. It asks only about dishes rung on that visit.
Throw them away
- Press Discard these items.
- The dishes come off the bill, on this POS, at once. Dishes already sent to the kitchen stay on the bill.
- If nothing is left on the bill, the bill is thrown away and the table is Free again.
- The POS is back on the tables. Nothing waits for the internet: the cloud is told afterwards.
A bill with money on it
When part of the bill has already been paid, the dishes are never taken off by going back. The question then says Money has been taken on this bill, so they stay on it. Keep them, or stay on the bill to send them. and has only Cancel and Keep them on the bill.
To take a dish off a bill with money on it, open the bill and void the dish. See Void a dish.
The question opens over the bill, so the dishes it names are still in view behind it. The three buttons are in one row: Cancel on the left, Keep them on the bill in blue in the middle, Discard these items in red on the right.
The question is an Android window with the three answers one under another, each the full width: Discard these items in red at the top, Keep them on the bill under it, and Cancel at the foot. A tap outside the window, or the Back key, is the same as Cancel.
- Discard these items: takes these dishes off and goes back to the tables. Not there on a bill with money on it.
- Keep them on the bill: back to the tables, the dishes kept, not sent.
- Cancel: stays on the bill.
