On a very busy night the kitchen may need a break from new QR orders. From any POS of the outlet you can close QR ordering with one press: guests can still read the menu on their phones, but cannot send an order. When the rush is over, open it again with one press.

The QR also closes by itself, outside the outlet's QR ordering hours and once the day end is done. The same menu tells you which, and when it opens again.

Before you start

  • You need the QR right: QR Incoming Orders, Edit, in your POS access group, the same right that accepts QR orders. Without it the menu shows the state, but no button.
  • A POS that works through its Main POS on your own network shows the state only. Close and open on the Main POS.
  • The QR hours are set in the back office, on the outlet: Outlets, the outlet, QR ordering, QR ordering hours. See Outlets: QR ordering.

Open the menu

  1. On the table screen, find 📱 QR in the bar along the bottom.
  2. Right-click it, or hold it with a finger for a moment. (A plain tap opens the QR orders, as always.)
  3. The QR ordering menu opens beside the key.
  4. To close the menu without doing anything, tap anywhere else, or press Esc on Windows.

The same menu opens from the green 2 QR waiting chip and from the red 📱 QR closed chip in the top bar (that one opens it with a plain tap too). Hold the mouse over the QR key on Windows and it says Right-click or hold to close or open QR ordering.

The menu, part by part

The QR ordering menu while QR ordering is open.
  1. QR ordering: the menu's name.
  2. The state line, with a dot: green while open, red while closed, grey while this POS does not know yet. What it can say is in What the state line says.
  3. The one action that applies: ⏸️ Close QR ordering now, in red, or ▶️ Open QR ordering, in green, while QR ordering is closed by hand. With no QR right, the words Closing or opening QR ordering needs the QR right. stand here instead.

What the state line says

The lineWhat it means
QR ordering is openGuests can order. No QR hours are set.

Closed by Ali (T01) at 7:42 pmSomeone closed it by hand: who, on which POS, and when. Closed by hand at 7:42 pm when who is not known.
Closed: outside QR hours, opens at 5:00 pmOutside the QR hours. It opens by itself at 5:00 pm, tomorrow at 10:00 am or Monday at 10:00 am.
Closed: the day end is doneToday's day end is done. It opens when the next business day starts.
Closed by Ali at 7:42 pm, not sent to the cloud yetClosed on this POS, and the cloud has not had it yet. Opened at 7:55 pm, not sent to the cloud yet for an Open.
Not known yet: this POS has not heard from the cloudThis POS has not reached the cloud since it started.

When a hand close and the hours (or the day end) hold together, a second line with a red dot says the other one, such as Closed: outside QR hours, opens at 5:00 pm under Closed by Ali (T01) at 3:10 pm.

Close QR ordering

  1. Open the menu on the QR key: right-click it, or hold it.
  2. Press ⏸️ Close QR ordering now.
  3. The line says Closed by Ali at 7:42 pm, not sent to the cloud yet, and the key shows ⏳ until the cloud has it, which is at once when the internet is up.
  4. The line then says Closed by Ali (T01) at 7:42 pm, and the button turns to ▶️ Open QR ordering.
  5. Tap anywhere else to close the menu.
The QR key: open, closed, and closed on this POS but not sent yet.
  1. Open: the key as always.
  2. Closed, for any reason: the picture and the word are dimmed and crossed out, with a small red Closed in the key's corner. Every POS of the outlet shows it, and a red 📱 QR closed chip stands in the top bar, even where your System Button profile hides the QR key.
  3. ⏳: this POS's own close (or open) has not reached the cloud yet (Not sent yet).

Every other POS of the outlet shows QR ordering closed within half a minute. A hand close lasts until someone opens it again, or until the business day ends at the outlet's day-end hour, whichever comes first. A close forgotten tonight does not keep the QR shut tomorrow.

Open QR ordering again

  1. Open the menu: right-click or hold the QR key, or tap the red 📱 QR closed chip.
  2. The line says who closed it and when: Closed by Ali (T01) at 7:42 pm.
  3. Press ▶️ Open QR ordering.
  4. The line says Opened at 7:55 pm, not sent to the cloud yet until the cloud has it, then QR ordering is open. The key and the chip look as usual again on every POS within half a minute.
Open QR ordering, while the QR hours still keep it closed.
  1. Closed by Ali (T01) at 3:10 pm: the hand close.
  2. The second line: the QR hours keep it closed as well.
  3. What Open had to say, in amber: Open QR ordering ends the hand close only. It never overrides the QR hours or the day end, so the menu says when the QR opens: QR ordering opens at 5:00 pm (QR hours)., QR ordering is outside its hours now (QR hours)., or The day end is done: QR ordering opens again when the next business day starts.
  4. ▶️ Open QR ordering: ends the hand close.

What closes QR ordering

WhyWho decidesHow it opens again
Closed by hand from a POSYour staff, with Close QR ordering nowOpen QR ordering, or by itself when the business day ends
Outside the QR hoursThe back office's QR ordering hoursBy itself, when the next period starts
The day end is doneThe day end on the Main POSWhen the next business day starts. Reopening the day opens it too.

The cloud is the judge: guests' phones talk only to the cloud, and the cloud decides whether an order is taken. The POS shows what the cloud last said, and keeps it, so a POS started with no internet still shows the last word.

What guests see

While QR ordering is closed, the QR page still opens and shows the menu, but takes no order. It says Sorry, we're not taking QR orders right now., and then:

  • for a hand close: The restaurant has paused QR orders for a while. Please order with our staff.
  • outside the hours: when it opens again, such as We open again at 10:00 am. or Opens tomorrow at 10:00 am.

Where the Add button was, a dish says Not taking QR orders now. Call waiter and Request bill still work, and so does the queue. The page looks again once a minute, and opens by itself when QR ordering does. See When the QR page says it is closed.

On Windows

Right-click the QR key, or hold it with a finger on a touch screen. The menu stays open after a press, so you see the new state and anything Open had to say on it, in amber. The dots in front of the lines are green, red or grey.

On Android

Hold the 📱 QR key, the QR waiting chip or the 📱 QR closed chip for a moment (a tap on QR closed works too). The menu closes after a press. What Open QR ordering had to say comes up in a box titled QR ordering, with Close. The state lines are red while closed, with no dots. A closed key has its picture struck through and faint, a red edge, and Closed in its corner (Closed ⏳ while not sent yet).
