An open-price dish has no fixed price: the cashier keys what it is sold at, each time. It suits a market-price fish, a cake sold by the slice at the counter's price, a staff meal, a dish rung for a function.

Its button on the menu shows no price, and the search list says Open price.

Before you start

  • The dish has Cashier keys the price ticked in the back office, on its Pricing tab. A Minimum price there is the lowest it may be sold at. See Items: Pricing.
  • Keying an open price is a right: Key an open price, in your POS access group. Without it, a manager approves each one. See POS access groups.

Ring an open-price dish

  1. Tap the dish, type its code or scan it.
  2. If you may not key an open price, a manager types their PIN first. See A manager's PIN first.
  3. The price pad opens. Type the price, for example 38.50.
  4. Press OK.
  5. If the dish asks choices, or who served, they are asked now.
  6. The dish goes on the bill at the price keyed, on a line of its own.
The price pad (Windows), for a dish whose price is keyed.
  1. The dish's name: the dish being priced.
  2. Open price. Type what it is sold at.: and, when the dish has a minimum price, Not less than RM 20.00.
  3. The entry: the price you type, in large figures. 0.00 in grey before you type.
  4. .: the decimal point. A price takes two places after it, and at most six figures before it.
  5. Cancel: closes the pad. The dish is not added.
  6. OK: takes the price. Grey until you type something.
On Windows

The keyboard types on the pad too: the digits and the point, Backspace, Enter for OK, and Esc for Cancel.

A barcode scanned while the pad is open is not typed in as a price: the pad says That was a barcode scan, not a price, and nothing was typed. Type the price, or Cancel and scan again.

A price of 0.00 can be keyed, unless the dish has a minimum price above it.

A manager's PIN first

When your access group does not include Key an open price, a manager approves the price before the pad opens.

A manager approves keying the price.
  1. Why: the right this needs.
  2. PIN: the manager's PIN, shown as dots.
  3. Staff code (optional): the manager's staff code. A PIN alone is enough when nobody else shares it.
  4. Approve: checks the PIN on this POS, so it works without the internet. Green, and grey until a PIN is typed. Then the price pad opens. Cancel adds nothing.

The manager must have Key an open price themselves. The line remembers who keyed the price and which manager approved it. See Manager approval on the spot.

After it is on the bill

  • The line shows the price keyed. An open-price dish always has a line of its own: a second one is keyed again.
  • To change the price later, tap the line and press Price. See Change a price.

On Android

The price pad and the manager's window are the same. The pad has a Clear key under the numbers, which empties the entry. A tap outside the pad closes it, adding nothing.
