The sales screen is where an order is taken. The menu is on the left, the bill on the right. Every dish goes on the bill here, and every action on the bill starts here: send it to the kitchen, print it, discount it, split it, pay it.

This guide shows each part of the screen and what it is for. Each task has its own guide, linked at the end.

Open the sales screen

  • On the table screen, tap a free table: a new bill opens for it. Tap a taken table, then Continue order in its window, to go back to its bill. See Open a table.
  • On the table screen, press Quick sale: a bill with no table, for a guest at the counter. See Quick sale.
  • Scan a dish's barcode on the table screen: a quick sale opens with that dish on it. See Item code, barcode and search.
  • On a POS with no table plan, the sales screen is where you work all day, with New sale ready. See A POS with no tables.

The screen, part by part

This is the Windows POS. The Android POS has the same parts: see On Android.

The sales screen (Windows): the menu on the left, the bill on the right, Pay under the total.
  1. ← Tables: back to the table screen. The bill stays open at its table. If dishes on it are not sent to the kitchen yet, the POS asks what to do with them first. See Leaving a bill with dishes not sent. On a POS with no table plan this button is ☰ Bills.
  2. The bill's name and number: Table T6 at a table, Quick sale for a bill with no table, and the bill's number under it. Once the bill has a queue number, it shows big in amber beside the name: Queue A023.
  3. 👤 Member: puts a member on the bill, or opens the member on it. With a member on the bill, the chip is gold and shows the member's name. Shown only when your restaurant uses Member. See Find a member and put them on the bill.
  4. Dine In ▾: the bill's order type. Tap it to change it: the prices, the tax and the service charge follow the new type. See Order type and service type.
  5. Served by Aisyah ▾: who serves this bill, for commission. Who served? ▾ when nobody is named yet. Shown only when your restaurant has staff set up. See Who served, and sold by.
  6. ⌨: the POS's own on-screen keyboard, for a screen with no keyboard. See The on-screen keyboard.
  7. ↻: refresh. The POS fetches the latest menu, prices and tables from the cloud, without leaving the bill. It turns while it works and shows ✓ when done.
  8. The dish buttons: tap one to put it on the bill. See The menu: tabs and dish buttons below, and Add dishes to the bill.
  9. Item code or barcode and 🔍: type a dish's code and press Enter, or scan its barcode. 🔍 opens the search list. See Item code, barcode and search.
  10. A bill line: the quantity in its square, the dish, and its amount. Tap the square to type a quantity. Tap the rest of the line to open its window with every action for that line. See The bill, line by line below, and A bill line's window.
  11. The totals: Subtotal, discounts, taxes, service charge and rounding. See The totals below.
  12. TOTAL: what the guests pay, in large figures.
  13. Pay RM 45.00: opens the payment window. Grey while the bill is empty. See Take payment and close a bill.

Under the menu runs the bar of bill actions: see The bar of bill actions.

A slim status bar along the very bottom of the screen shows this POS, its shift, who is signed in and the time. See The status bar.

The menu: tabs and dish buttons

The menu: category tabs, dish buttons, a sold-out dish and a stock count, and the pager.
  1. The category tabs: one tab for each category of the menu. Tap one to show its dishes. The chosen tab is drawn differently from the others, in its own colour. The tabs run across the top, down the left (one to three columns), or down the left as a list of names only, as the menu's Menu settings say in the back office. With one category, there are no tabs. See Menu Designer: Menu settings.
  2. A dish button: its name, its price, and its picture when it has one. A dish with a second-language name shows it too, as the menu's Names on the POS says. A button can also open another category of the menu, as the menu was designed.
  3. SOLD OUT: the dish is sold out at this outlet today. The button is greyed. A tap does not add it: the bill says Nasi Goreng is sold out today. Clear it in the back office if it is back. See Mark a dish sold out from the POS.
  4. 3 left: the count still on the shelf, for a dish that keeps a stock count. At 0 or below it turns red, and the dish can still be sold.
  5. ‹ 1/2 ›: the pager, when a category has more dishes than fit on one screen. ‹ is the previous screen, › the next. A new tab starts on its first screen.

Whether the prices and the stock counts show on the buttons is set per POS in the back office: Show price on menu buttons and Show balance qty on menu buttons, on the POS terminal setting's Order screen tab. SOLD OUT always shows. See POS Terminal Settings: Order screen tab.

The bill, line by line

Bill lines: each says what is on it, under the dish's name.
  1. The quantity and the sum: the quantity in a big square, and under the name, for more than one or a dish sold by weight, the quantity times the price: 2 × 14.90 = 29.80. The amount at the right is the line's.
  2. + Less ice: the dish's choices. A note typed for the dish shows under them after ·.
  3. sold by Siti · 12:31: a line sold by somebody other than the bill's server says who, and the time it was rung when the POS shows the order time.
  4. not sent: amber while the dish is not sent to the kitchen yet. 1 not sent when only part of the line is new. It goes when you press Save & Fire. See Save & Fire.
  5. less 10%: a discount on this line, in green. A price changed by hand shows the old price struck through beside the new one.

Other marks a line can carry:

  • Return: a red tag on a line below 0, a dish given back. See Return dishes.
  • A service type, such as Take Away, in a blue tag: this one dish is served another way than the bill. See Order type and service type.
  • A promotion, in green under the line, with what it takes off: FREE ×1 (Buy 2 Teh Tarik get 1), or its name and −0.50. pending beside it until the cloud confirms it. See Promotions on the bill.
  • −1 to delete: part of a dish the kitchen already has was taken off. The kitchen is told at the next Save & Fire. A whole dish taken off stays on the bill struck through in red, with DELETE, not fired, until then. See Void a dish.

When the POS shades each order, the bill is in parts: 1st order · 12:30, 2nd order · 13:05, each saved order in its own shade, and New — not fired for what is not sent yet. This is set in the back office: Saved order colour, on the same Order screen tab.

A new dish goes to the bottom of the bill, and the bill scrolls to it by itself. Scroll the bill with a finger, the mouse wheel, or by pulling it with the mouse.

The totals

From the top:

  • Subtotal: the dishes before any discount.
  • The promotions and vouchers on the bill, by name, in green, with what each takes off. One that takes nothing now is amber and says why. A voucher has ✕ beside it, to take it off. See A voucher on the bill.
  • Discount: everything taken off, added up.
  • The taxes, each by its name.
  • Service charge.
  • Rounding.
  • Price includes tax RM 3.21: the tax already inside the prices, when your prices include tax.
  • Bill remark: a note printed on the bill and the receipt, or Add bill remark when there is none. Tap to write or change it. See Bill remark.
  • TOTAL.

Pay

Pay RM 45.00 is green, under the total. It opens the payment window. It is grey while the bill has nothing on it.

  • On a POS that may not take payment, it is grey with This POS is not set up to take payment. Pay at another POS. under it.
  • On a waiter POS there is no Pay at all, only The bill is paid at the counter.

The Android POS has the same parts in the same places, with these differences:

  • The order type is a chip of two lines: Dine In, and under it Service charge applies or No service charge. On a wide screen it also has a Change key at its right.

  • There is no ⌨ and no ↻ on the top line.
  • On the bar, Split is Split bill; Promotions shows how many can be applied now, such as Promotions (2), and only when your outlet has promotions the cashier applies by hand; Voucher says Voucher on bill while the bill holds one; and Call (or Call A023) is a button of the bar.
