Split bill

Split one bill into two at the same table, in two boxes. Tap a dish to move one of it, All to move every one, a bill remark for each, one Save for the whole split, Pay under either bill, a third bill by splitting again, and what stays on the original. On the Windows and the Android POS.

When a table wants separate bills, split the bill before anyone pays. The split screen has two boxes: the original bill on the left and the new bill on the right. You tap the dishes across, and each box shows its own total. Then you save both bills on the table, or take the payment for either one at once.

A split is made on this POS first. It works with the internet down; the cloud is told afterwards.

Before you start

  • Something to split. The bill needs two dishes, or one dish with a quantity of 2 or more. Until then Split is greyed.
  • Nothing paid yet. A bill with a payment on it cannot be split. Take the payment back first (see What if…).
  • You need the right to split bills (pos.order.transfer in your access group, the same right as moving a table). Without it the POS says Missing permission: pos.order.transfer.

Open the split screen

There are two ways:

  • On the sales screen, press Split in the row of buttons under the menu (on Android: Split bill).
  • On the table screen, tap the taken table, then press Split in its window. See The table window.

The split screen, part by part

The split screen (Windows), one Nasi Lemak Ayam and one Teh Tarik already moved to the new bill.
  1. Split the bill, and the help line under it: Tap an item on the left to move one to the new bill. Tap it on the right to move it back.
  2. Close: leaves the split screen. What is still in the right box goes back: nothing was taken off the original until you save, so nothing is lost. On Windows, a remark typed under the left box is kept on the original; on Android it is kept only by Save.
  3. Original bill: the bill as it stands, less what you moved, with its number (SO-0412) and how many items it holds (3 items).
  4. A dish: its quantity, name, choices (+ Less sugar), note and amount. Tap it to move one to the new bill. A dish of 2 splits into 1 and 1. All › beside it moves every one of it. Less than one (0.35 kg of fish) moves whole.
  5. Subtotal and Total: this bill's own figures, worked out as the bill will charge them, with its own tax, service charge, rounding, discounts and promotions.
  6. Bill remark: a note printed on this bill. The left box starts with the original's remark; change it or leave it. See Bill remark.
  7. Pay under the original: saves the whole split, then opens the payment window for the original bill, at the left box's total.
  8. New bill: starts empty, with Nothing here yet. Tap items on the left. A tap on a dish here moves one back; ‹ All moves them all back. It has its own count, Subtotal, Total and Bill remark.
  9. Pay under the new bill: saves the new bill, then opens its payment window. Once it is paid (or you leave the payment window), you come back to the split screen with what is left, to split again or save.
  10. Save: the one Save, for the whole split. What is in the right box becomes a new bill at the same table, with its remark. The original keeps what is left in its box, with its remark. The split screen closes, and the line above the bill says Saved as bill SO-0413.

Split a bill and pay later

  1. Press Split.
  2. Tap each dish the second group had, on the left. Each tap moves one. Use All › for a dish they had all of.
  3. Moved too much? Tap the dish on the right to move it back.
  4. Type a remark for either bill, if you like.
  5. Press Save.
  6. Both bills are on the table now. Tap the table on the floor plan: its window shows both, by their numbers. Pay each one when the guests are ready.

Split a bill and pay one at once

  1. Press Split and move the dishes of the first guest to pay onto the right.
  2. Press Pay under the New bill.
  3. The new bill is saved and the payment window opens for its total. Take the payment. See Take payment and close a bill.
  4. When you leave the payment window, the split screen comes back with what is left of the original.
  5. Move the next guest's dishes and press Pay again, or press Pay under the Original bill for the last guest, or Save to pay later.

What stays on the original

Before anything moves, an amber line under the title says what will not move:

  • The bill discount stays on the original bill. A discount keyed on the whole bill is not shared out. A discount keyed on one dish goes with that dish; an amount discount on a dish that is divided is shared by quantity, to the sen.
  • A voucher stays on it too: for example Free Teh Tarik stays on this bill. Each bill is priced again after the split, so its promotions may change.
  • Promotions are worked out again for each bill. A promotion may apply to one bill and not the other, so the two totals can add up to a little more or less than the bill had.

The new bill starts with no bill discount and no voucher. Give them on it after the split if you need to.

On Android

The split screen has the same two boxes, the same taps and the same one Save along the foot, with these differences:

  • The title says the table too: Split the bill · Table T6.
  • All shows only beside a dish where a tap moves less than the whole line (a dish of 2 or more), on both sides.
  • A dish not yet sent to the kitchen says not sent under its name.
  • A dish sold by weight (1.25 kg) always moves whole.
  • Each box shows the figures that make its total: Subtotal, a Discount, each tax, Service charge and Rounding, then Total. The note about the discount and vouchers is in the left box, just above its figures.
  • Pay shows only on a POS that takes payment.
  • On a phone, or a tablet held upright, the two boxes are one above the other: the help says Tap an item in the top box to move one to the new bill. Tap it in the bottom box to move it back., and the empty new bill says Nothing here yet. Tap items in the box above.
  • After Save, the line above the bill says The bill is split. The new bill is SO-0413.
  • With the internet down, a dish already sent to the kitchen that has not reached the cloud yet moves whole.
